MAX 6/545 147' TOE/V5 K United The present invention relates to support means for a pair of condensing funnels in drafting arrangements of spinning machines.
Many different support arrangements for condensing funnels are known which are all unsuitable or too complicated to be practical for placing in drafting arrangements of spinning machines, the condensing funnels between the nips of the drawing rollers and the localities where the aprons of double apron drafting arrangements are reversed. To place the funnels in the limited space available it has been proposed to omit guide and support means for the funnels and to rest the funnels on the drawing rollers and on the aprons. This arrangement was not successful because the funnels moved away laterally when the roves which, in this case, provide a guide for the funnels broke or were interrupted. When the roving is used for guiding the funnel, the latter must extend all around the roving to prevent falling off of the funnel. Inserting the roving in an annular funnel takes much more time than inserting the roving in a funnel which is open on one side.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a guide and support for a pair of condensing funnels for drafting arrangements which support is extremely simple and does not require additional stays and the like which must be mounted on and extend alongside of the spinning machine so that the support can be arranged in the available space. The support according to the invention includes a central carrying element and support means connected with each of the two funnels which support means extend through the central element and afford independent lateral movement of the funnels in a direction which is normal to the direction of movement of the roving.
The support means which are connected with the two funnels are preferably in the form of parallel rods having eyes formed on their free ends, the rod connected with one funnel extending through the eye at the end of the rod connected with the other funnel, and vice versa. The carrying element is preferably provided with a slot freely longitudinally movably receiving the two rods. The carrying element is preferably mounted on or forms a part of the reversing rail for the lower apron of the drafting arrangement and may also serve as a spacer for maintaining a desired distance between the reversing rail and the cradle for the upper apron of the drafting arrangement, the cradle resting on the carrying element.
The novel features which are considered characteristic of the invention are set forth with particularity in the appended claims. The invention itself, however, and additional objects and advantages thereof will best be understood from the following description of embodiments thereof when read in connection with the accompanying drawing in which:
'Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a pair of condensing funnels and of a support therefor.
Fig. 2 is a diagrammatic longitudinal sectional view of a drawing arrangement equipped with a support for two condensing funnels.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, numerals 1.
and 2 designate condensing funnels which are rigidly mounted on rods 3 and 4 respectively, which extend laterally of the funnels. The free end of the rod 3 is bent to form a ring 5 at one end of the rod and extending in a plane which is normal to the rod. The same is done with the free end of the rod 4 for forming a ring 6. The ring 5 extends upward from the rod 3 and forms an eye through which the rod 4 extends. The ring 6 extends downward from the rod 4 and forms an eye through which the rod 3 extends. The juxtaposed portions of the rods 3 and 4 between the eyes 5 and 6, which portions are parallel, rest and are freely longitudinally movable in a slot 7 of a central spacing element 8. The latter is mounted on a reversing rail 10 for the lower aprons 11 of a double apron drafting arrangement and serves also as a spacer for the cradle 9 of the upper apron from the rail 10, the cradle resting on the element 9.
Though a screw is shown in the drawing for connecting the element 8 with the rail 10, it may be glued, soldered or Welded to the rail or it may form a portion thereof, i.e., be integral with the rail.
1 claim:
1. Support means for a pair of condensing funnels in a drafting arrangement of a spinning machine comprising a pair of parallel rods having juxtaposed portions, each rod having an end rigidly connected to one of the funnels, an individual guide means connected to the free end of each rod, the guide means connected to one of said rods axially slidably engaging the second rod and the guide means connected to the second rod axially slidably engaging the first rod for mutually guiding the rods for relative longitudinal movement thereof and for affording independent lateral movement of the funnels, and a support element longitudinally movably supporting said rods.
2. Support means as defined in claim 1, said guide means being in the form of eyes, the rod connected with one funnel extending through the eye on the rod connected with the other funnel, and vice versa.
3. Support means for a pair of condensing funnels in a double apron drafting arrangement having a reversing rail for the lower aprons and a cradle for the upper aprons, the support means comprising a pair of parallel rods having juxtaposed portions, each rod having an end rigidly connected to one of the funnels, a guide means connected to the free end of each rod, the guide means connected to one of said rods axially slidably engaging the second rod and the guide means connected to the second rod axially slidably engaging the first rod for mutually guiding the rods for relative longitudinal movement and for affording independent lateral movement of the funnels, and a spacer element connected to said reversing rail between the aprons, said spacer element including means freely movably guiding said rods for relative movement in the longitudinal direction of the rods and for simultaneous movement of both rods in a direction normal to said rods and in a plane including the longitudinal axes of the parallel juxtaposed portions of both rods.
4. Support means as defined in claim 3, wherein said means of said spacer element for guiding said rods is in the form of a vertical slot freely vertically movably accommodating portions of the juxtaposed portions of said rods.
