UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIcE.
. COLUMBUS D. ZELLNER, OF DELTA, OHIO.
N ECK-YOKE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 292,886, dated February 5, 1854.
`pplication filed October 23, 1883. (No model.)
Thisinventionf relates toneck-yokes for vehicles; nanditlhas'gfor itsfobject Vto provide a device which shall possess superior advantages in point of simplicity, durability, and general efficiency, and in which special provision shall be made for renewing the leather or packing in the neck-yoke ring when worn out, thus enabling the said ring to last longer and be more serviceable than those of ordinary construe-- tion.
To this end my invention consists in the iniproved construction and arrangement of parts,
which will be hereinafter fullyA described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings hereto annexed, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a neck-yoke embodying my improvements. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken through the necklyoke ring. i Fig. 3 is a detail showing in perspective the several parts of the invention detached from eachother.
The same letters refer all the figures.
A in the drawings designates the neck-yoke,
and B the ring, which is in practice attached to the yoke, aiid which passes over the front end of the tongue. The body of thesaid ring may be constructed of malleable metal or other flange or band, C, fitting aroundthc neckyoke, and secured to the latter by means of screws or bolts D D, which should be squareheaded, so as to be readily adjustable and de l tachable by means of an ordinarywrench.
The ring or plate, which is designated by letter E, is provided on its front and rear sides `with annular flangesF F, as clearly shown in the drawings.
to the same parts in I Seated in the opening H of the ring or plate E is a ring,I, of leather, which is provided with u flanges J J, fitting within the annular ilangesF of the said plate, as shown.
The ring I, with its flanges, is constructed in any suitable manner and connected Y by stitchingor otherwise, as at L, and maybe conveniently inserted and securedin placeby means of bolts M, as shown in the drawings.
' The operation and advantages of this invention will be readily understood from the foregoing description, taken in connection-with the drawings hereto annexed. Vhen the leather of the yoke-ring wears out, it may be easily detached and a new leather inserted, thus ren-V dering the device again as useful as a new one. The reinserting of leather may be repeated as often as desired, the leather portion of the ring beingthe only one which is exposed to wear.
l I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United Statesl. In a neck-yoke ring, the combination, with a body-plate made of metal and having annular flanges on its front and rear sides, of a leather packing-ring seated in an opening inthe said body-plate, and having iianges `fitting within the flanges of the latter, as set forth.
2. In a neck-yoke ring,\the combinationfof a metallic body-plate having a securing` ilange or band, andprovidedwith an openingsur-` rounded by annular iianges on its front and rear sides, a packing-ring seated in the said opening, and having flanges fitting within the flanges of the body-plate, and transverse fasti ening bolts or rivets, as set forth.V
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my ownhave hereto affixed mysi gnature in presence of two witnesses.
COLUMBUS D. ZELLNER.
