Description
I. SETTLER DISPLAY FORM Jan. 5 1960 2 Sheets-*Sheet 2 Filed Oct. 19, 1956 INVENTOR. few/v6 55772152 ATTOE/VE Y5 2,919,501 f DISPLAY FORM Irving Settler, Miami Beach, Fla. Application October 19, 1956, Serial No. 617,165
' 1 Claim. 01. 35-56) The present invention relates to a display form for supporting a garment for covering the neck, shoulders, and upper torso of a wearer for display purposes.
An object of the present invention is to provide a display form for supporting a blouse or shirt in an attractive manner, one which lends itself readily to portability, one which is sturdy in construction and simple in structure and economical to manufacture and assemble, one which permits the adjustment of the form to accommodate garments of various sizes and shapes and also is adjustable to permit the slipping of the garment from a floor surface upwardly and backwardly so as to enhance the appearance of the garment, and one which is highly effective in action.
These and other objects and advantages of the present invention will be fully apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the annexed drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is an elevational view of the display form of the present invention, showing a blouse or shirt supported thereon;
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 22 of Figure 1, with the blouse or shirt removed therefrom;
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 33 of Figure 2;
Figure 4 is an elevational view, partially in section, of a modified form of the present invention, showing in dotted lines a garment such as is shown in Figure 1 supported thereon, showing the arm element of the present invention in full lines in an upright position and in dotted lines in the extended horizontal position of use for attachment of the garment;
Figure 5 is a plan view of the base and arm elements of Figure 4, showing the arm element in full lines in the horizontal position;
Figure 6 is a sectional view, on an enlarged scale, taken on the line 66 of Figure 4; and
Figure 7 is a sectional view, on an enlarged scale, taken on the line 77 of Figure 5.
Referring in greater detail to the drawings, in which like numerals indicate like parts throughout the several views, the display form of the present invention comprises a base 10 and a standard 11 rising from the base and having its lower end 12 connected to the base 10 for pivotal movement, by means of a swivel connection 13, about a horizontal axis.
A hanger 14, adapted to support the neck, shoulder, and adjacent portions of a garment is positioned on one side of the standard 11 and in parallel relation with respect to the standard, and with its longitudinal axis in the plane of the horizontal axis of movement of the standard 11 with respect to the base 10.
The hanger 14 is of a shape to support the garment 15 in a lifelike manner and is dependingly carried by the upper end of the standard 11, there being a telescopic portion of the standard 11, indicated by the reference numeral 16, which slides into the lower portion of the standard 11 for raising and lowering the hanger 2,919,501 Patented Jan. 5, 1960 14 with respect to the base 10. A collar 17 and a set screw 18 permit the locking of the portion 16 in any position of adjusted upward or downward movement with respect to the lower portion of the standard 11.
An arm element, embodying a hinged panel 19 at one side of the base 10, is provided for holding the lower end portion of the garment 15 away from the standard 11. The panel 19 is hingedly connected to the bottom 20 of the base 10 and is normally longitudinally arranged in upright spaced relation with respect to the standard 11 and in the same plane as the normal position of the hanger 14.
The panel 19, by means of its hinged connection to the bottom 20, moves from the upright position shown in full lines in Figure 2 to an extended horizontal position below and spaced from the hanger 14, as shown in dotted lines in Figure 2.
A horizontally disposed shelf 21 extends across the space within the base 10 and carries on its end adjacent the panel 19 a means or plurality of spaced pin members 22, the ends of which are engageable with the lower end portion of the garment 15 when the latter is tucked into the opening of the base 10 and the panel 19 is permitted to swing to its upright position.
Referring to Figures 4 to 7, inclusive, another form of the present invention is shown in which the base 30 has a standard 31 rising therefrom. The standard 31 has an upper telescopic portion 32 connected to the lower portion of the standard 31 for upward and downward adjustment and a hanger 33 is carried upon the upper end of the standard 31 in the same manner as heretofore described with respect to the standard 11 and the hanger 14.
A pivotal connector 34 connects the lower end of the standard 31 to the base 30 for swinging movement about a horizontal axis lying in the same plane as the longitudinal axis of the hanger 33.
An arm element, embodying a tubular member 35 having a telescopic portion 36 slidable therein for extensile and retractile movement, is connected to the base 30 by its lower end for movement from the full end position shown in Figure 4 to the dotted line position in that figure in which it is in extended and horizontal position so that the means or pin members 37 carried by the clamping plate 38 on the end of the portion 36 may engage in the lower end portion of the garment 15 for holding the lower end of the garment 15 away from the base 30 and in an attractive sloping display of the garment.
The clamping plate 38 consists in an upper part 39 and a lower part 40 held together by screws 41 for securing the pin members 37 in their horizontal projected position, as shown best in Figure 7.
A post 42 rises from the base 30 and forms a support for the pivotal connector 34 to which is attached the standard 31.
In the first embodiment of the present invention, shown in Figures 1 to 3, inclusive, a post 43 carries the swivel connection 13, to which is fixed the lower end 12 of the standard 11 and is itself mounted upon a slide block 44 which is carried upon a pair of inverted U-shaped rods 45 and 46 having their legs fixedly secured in the top 47.
In each of the embodiments of the present invention, the upper end portions of the standards 11 and 31, respectively, provide handle means for the carrying of the display form of the present invention and provide means by which the respective standards can be tilted to any desired position for the display of the garment. It will be seen, therefore, that the display form of the present invention lends itself to the neat and attractive draping of garments thereover for display purposes.
What is claimed is:
A form for displaying in outline form a garment for covering the neck, shoulders, and upper torso of a wearers body comprising a base, a standard rising fromsaid base, a hanger adapted to support the neck and shoulder portions of said garment positioned on one side of and in parallel relation With respect to said standard and dependingly carried by the upper end of said standard, an arm element for holding the lower end portion of said garment away from said standard arranged in longitudinal spaced upright relation with respect to said standard and connected at its lower end to said base for movement from the upright position to an extended horizontal position below and spaced from said hanger, and pin members carried by said base cooperative with said arm element when the latter is in the upright position for engaging the lower end portion of said garment.
