Application July 29, 1957, Serial No. 674,883
4 Claims. (Cl. 312-235) The present invention relates to a portable bucket-type container for outdoors use, novel cover means for lidding and closing the otherwise top of the container, and multipurpose means which is attached to and depends from the cover and telescopes into the receptacle portion of the container.
' ,I f construed along other lines of approach the over-all construction may be interpreted as characterized by a handle-equipped bucket or container, a handle-equipped readily applicable and removable cover or lid, the lid being provided on its top side with a detachable cushion providing a seat, and being provided on its bottom side with a novel rack having compartments which may be employed in many different ways depending on the particular purposes for which the over-all container is marketed. That is to say, for the camper and picnicking user the compartments may be used for lunching needs, for carrying soft drinks, miscellaneous toys and so on. If and when adopted, as is generally the case, by a fisherman, he thereby has at his disposal a lunch bucket, so to speak, tackle box, and cushioned seat.
Interpreting the concept from a similar but nevertheless slightly diiferent point of view, it may be characterized as comprising a hassock-like cushion or seat removably mounted atop a lid, with the lid suspending from its underside a partitioned construction fitted into a container or bucket when not in use.
Other objects, features and advantages will become more readily apparent from the following description and the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings, wherein like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the views:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a multipurpose container and removable seat or cover constructed in accordance with the principles of the present invention.
Fig. 2 is an exploded perspective view wherein the cover is lifted out to expose and render accessible the partitioned rack or means supported therefrom.
Fig. 3 is also a perspective view with the components of the cover means treated separately to illustrate the construction and cooperation thereof.
Fig. 4 is an enlarged vertical or central section taken approximately on the plane of the line 44 of Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrows.
Fig. 5 is a horizontal section on the line 5-5 of Fig. 4.
Fig. 6 is a fragmentary section on the line 66 of Fig. 5.
Fig. 7 is a fragmentary perspective view showing the dividers or partitions, that is the upper flanged end portions thereof.
By way of introduction to the description of the details it is to be reiterated that a container, seat and storage adaptation while depicted in Fig. 4 wherein it functions as a fishermans tackle box, it is the physical construction, rather than the various miscellaneous articles which are stored for protection and carrying, which is the salient aspect of the concept. As seen in Fig. 2 the container is represented as an imperforate closed bottom,
v 2,919,169 Patented Dec. 29, 1959 open top bucket '8. This bucket is of suitable construction having a vertical wall 10 which is imperforate as isthe cooperating bottom 12. The open top of the bucket may be provided if desired with a bead or rolled edge as denoted at 14 in Fig. 4. The numeral 16 designates a carrying and handling bail. The cover or lid 18 comprises a rigid disk or equivalent circular member (Fig. 3) which has a suitably shaped marginal rim 20 depending and formed with a bead 22 which may snap releasably over the bead 14, thus rendering the lid readily applicable and removable. The lid is also provided with'diameo rically opposite staples 24 and these staples serve to retain in place an elastic seat lifting strap 26. The strap is strapped over a readily attachable and detachable seat or cushion 28. The cushion has appropriate cushioning means 30 therein shown in Fig. 4 and is similar to a. cushion such as would be used on a stool, hassock or the like. Any appropriate covering or upholstering means 32 is provided. Also, the bottom of the covering or cushion is provided with female fasteners 34 to accommodate the male snap fasteners 36 arranged on the lid for separable cooperation in an obvious manner. The numerals 38 designate slots which are formed in rows and are arranged in cruciform fashion and which serve to accommodate the bendable connecting ears or tongues 40 (Fig. 7) formed on the upper ends or edges of the radial dividers or partitions 42 which go to make up the cruciform article rack 44. If desired, the upper edges may also be provided with lateral reinforcing flanges 46. The cushioned lid is attached, as shown, to the upper end of the cruciform rack. Also the rack is preferably further divided to provide selectively usable individual compartments. A circular pan 48 (Fig. 3) with an upstanding marginal rim 50 and a cruciform arrangement of slots 52 serves to accommodate connecting tongues 54 on the lower ends of the wing-like dividers or partitions 42. The partitions themselves are preferably provided with rows of slots 56 to accommodate tongues 58 on the right angled edge portions of the sector-shaped plates 60 as also seen in Fig. 3. The plates are provided on their outer marginal edges with upstanding arcuate flanges 62 and these flange plates when in position provide simple shelves. Therefore, the rack 44 is partitioned, equipped with shelves forming receptacles, and a pan at the bottom, as an entity, is suspended from and forms an actual part of the applicable and removable lid 18.
It may be further mentioned at this stage in the description that the cushioned lid provides a seat, that there is a pan 48 in parallelism below the lid 18, and that between the pan and lid radial or equivalent partitions provide connecting means, the connecting means in turn providing storage compartments for miscellaneous articles. For example, as seen at the right in Fig. 3 numeral 64 is simply a sheet or cork which may be used as a holder for hooked lures as seen at the right in Fig. 4. The shelves and compartmental spaces may be employed in any desired manner to accommodate fishing tackle.
Further reviewing the unique device one can construe it as an innovation in that the snap-on cushion is suitably padded and is preferably water-proof. The cushion and lid being firmly seated atop the bucket or container provides a comfortable seat. In removing the lid, in case it is firmly set, the pull strap 26 comes in handy. The bail 14 may be used as is ordinarily done when employing a bucket at a fishing ground, a picnic place or the like for carrying water, boiling water or doing what is usually done with a bucket. The compartments as mentioned can be utilized for handy accessible storage of leaders, salt water tackle, artificial bait, reels, sinkers, lines, hooks and so on. The cushion itself is detachable so that it can be removed from the lid and employed independently if so desired. When the device is properly packed and not overloaded, it can become sufliciently buoyant that it will float. Ample room for lunch and any and all articles that might be employed at a camp site is available with this in ention in hand. 'Minor changes in shape, size, materials and the like may be resorted to in actual practice without departing from the spirit of the invention or scope of the invention as claimed. I
