In the drawings, Fig. 1, A represents, the usual sleighbottom; B, the adjusting or jump seat; 0, the front or folding seat; S, the side of y the sleigh-box to which is attached the upright frameF, to which the seat 0 is-hinged and supported, as clearly shown in Fig. 5. To remove the seat 0, as shown in Fig. 1,

The seat 0 is then rocked back upon the hinges dd, which causes the seat to drop into the bottom of the box, as shown'in Fig. 3, or the position of Fig; 5. As the seat is rocked back the bar Pis drawn backward, thus drawing the recip rocating brace-irons D to a vertical position. against the frame F, as shown in Figs. 3 and 5, where they are out of the way; and when the seat is thrown forward to the position of Fig. 1 the lugs d stop upon the projecting ends ofthe braceirons D, which are thrown outward by the pivoted bars P. \Vhen the seat 0 is in the position of Figs. 3 and 5, the rear seat. B, having the braces E folded, as hereinafter described, is carried up and forward by the curved jumpirons h, as shown in dotted lines of Fig. 1, and in Fig. 4 ilSllilllOWll forward; by dotted, lines when thrown back. The jump-irons are in pairs, being pivoted to the bottom of the sleigh-box and to the under side of the seat B. When the seat- B is moved forward, it passes over the folded seat 0, its front edge meeting the top rail of the frame F, as shown in Fig. 8, thus making a single-seated cutter. When the seat B is thrown back, as in Fig. 1, it projects over the sleigh-box, and to properly support it in this position I employ two hollow metal braces, E. (See Figs. 1. and 2.) These braces are pivoted to lugs a a, attached to a suitable transverse bar. R, which is secured to the under side of the seat B, as shown in Fig 2. Near the center of this bar I attach two lugs, r 1-, connecting them with the hollow braces E by two jointed braces, a. The braces E, from the point Y to the top, are slotted, for the purposes hereinafter set forth. Thelower end portion of the braces E are provided with a square opening, Z. A slot is out through the braces, in which the pin 0 slides. These pins pass through a bolt within the braces, and are pressed down by coil-springs Z, as shown in Fig. 2. Passing from the cut ter body down upon the runners are two braces, I). (See Figs. 1 and 6). The lower portion of these braces is provided with an offset having a hole, 6, passing vertically through it. (See Fig. 6.) \Vhen the braces E are in a vertical position, to support the seat B, as in Fig. l, the square opening Z, at the lower end of the braces E, receives the offset containing the hole 6 of the braces 12. The pin 0 being raised draws the internal bolt within the brace E, and when the braces are in position the coilspring Z forces the internal bolt down through the hole 6 of the runner-brace, thus locking the parts together. The jointed braces 66" are then forced down at the center, thus locking laterally the parts to the seat B. To move the seat forward, as in Fig. 3, the pins 0 are raised and the braces a are thrown up at the center, when the braces E are swung up under the seat-bottom, as shown at the right hand of Fig. 2. The lower section of the braces a fold within the longitudinal slots formed in the braces E, before mentioned, as the lower ends of the braces E pass upward. The projecting ends of the bolts at the end of the braces are caused to spring into the holes of the guards 00 00, attached to the lugs n a, as clearly shown in Fig. 2. In this position they are held parallel with the bottom of the seat B, when said seat may be readily moved for ward, as herein before mentioned.
Having thus described my invention in the most exact terms that I can give, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
1. In asleigh-seat, the seat G, having hinged L-shaped end portions,said seat being secured to the frame F by hinges d d, said hinges having L-shaped extensions d, with lugs d and pintles 6, connecting bars P, reciprocating braces D, said braces pivoted to the frame F, the whole when arranged and combined substantially as specified.
2. The combination of the seat B, having jump-irons IL pivoted thereto, the hollow braces E, pivoted to the lugs 12, said braces containing pins 0, coil-springs Z, internal bolts, and square openings Z, said openings and internal bo'lts engaging with the offset and holes 6 of the runner-braces b, as and for the purposes sct forth.
3. The combination of the seat 13, having the rail R attached thereto, the hollow braces E, pivoted to the lugs 11 n, with jointed braces a", pivoted at Y, and to the lugs r, the lower portion of the braces (6 adapted to fold within the longitudinal openings of the braces E, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
4. In a sleigh, the seat B, having the jumpirons h attached thereto, the seat adapted to move backward over the sleigh-box, and supported by folding brace-irons attached thereto and to the runner-braces, as specified.
