The present invention particularly deals With a Writing device ofthe type indicated which is designed to be attachable to or detachable from an ordinary pen holder, and presents numerous advantages over heretofore existing similar devices.

One ofy the objects of the present invention is the provision of a scriber or drawing pen of simple, inexpensive and effective construction, which is adapted for attachment to and detachment from an ordinary pen holder. t

Another object of this invention is the provision of a scriber as stated above, which is provided with an ink reservoir and a closeable side opening for lling that reservoir.

A further object of this invention is the provision of a scriber or drawing point as stated above, wherein the reservoir is provided with a removable cap or closure, and which closure has a central internally threaded opening to receive a cleansing instrumentality, and wherein that cleansing instrumentality consists of a pin provided with an operating head at one, its outer end, and with a reduced lower end in which is mounted a cleansing wire, and wherein the body of the pin' is provided with a short, externally threaded portion between its ends for engaging the internal thread of the cap or cover, and wherein the pin is adapted for reciprocation within the reservoir under spring tension elected by a spiral compression spring disposed between the head of the pin and the outer surface of the cap or cover.

A further object of this invention is to provide a writing instrumentality or drawing point of the above described advantages and wherein a clip is placed about the body of the reservoir and which clip is removable and adjustable and may be turned so as to close the side opening to the ink reservoir, and wherein the clip is provided with an extension for attachment to or removal from an existing, ordinary pen holder.

The foregoing and still further objects and other advantages of the present invention will become more fully apparent from the ensuing description in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, wherein:

In the drawing numeral denotes a substantially cylindrical hollow body which is externally threaded at its upper end at 11, while its lower end 12 forms a hollow cone which terminates in a cylindrical extension 13. In that extension a cylindrical writing tube 14 is held. In the side of the cylindrical body there is provided a llng aperture 15 through which ink may be "ice placed into the lower portion of the reservoir body. Engaging the external thread 11 at the top of the reservoir is an internally threaded cap or closure 16 provided with a central opening 17` which is internally threaded. Operative within the body is ,what may be termed awriting tube cleansing device generally indicated at 18, and comprising a pin 19 provided at its upper or outer end with an enlargement or headr20, while its lower end 2.1 is reduced in size, and in which lower end there is mounted a writing tube cleansing wire 22. VBetweenthe head and the lower end of pin 19 there will `be seen a short externally threaded portion 23- which is adapted to engage the central internally threaded opening 17 of cap 16.

Between the head and the upper or outer face of the cap there will be seen a compression spring 24, the lower end 25 of which is of a suiiciently large diameter. to clear aperture 1710i the cap and thread 23 of pin 19. The convolutions of the spring Ybetween the pin head and the lower enlarged end of the spring arerclosely wound about the pin body. Spring 24 normally urges head 20 of the pin in upward direction. v

Surrounding and forcibly engaging the outer body 10 of the device there is provided aremovable spring clip 26 having two substantially semi-cylindrical, resilient lips 27. Either of the lips may form a closure for aperture 15 when the clip is turned in respect to body 10. Extending from the lips is a semi-cylindrical member 28 adapted for attachment to or removal from an existing ordinary common pen holder, as indicated at 29.

Operation The present writing device or drawing point is particularly intended for use with a template, that is writing tube 14 is preferably guided along the edge of such template, for instance, lettering templates, although the use of the device is not limited to its operationwith templates. It may be used freehand or against the edge of a ruler or other drawing instruments.

Before ink is placed into the reservoir it is preferred to have pin 19in the position shown in Fig. 2, that is its threaded portion 23 engaging the internally threaded central opening 17 of cap 16. In this position the action of spring 24 is neutralized. Now the device can be attached to a holder and can be used for writing.

In the event the ink in writing tube 14 dries or clogs it is a simple matter to clear tube 14 by means of wire 22. For operating the cleansing device, comprising the pin 19 and wire 22, the threaded portion 23 of the pin is freed from the internal thread of opening 17 of the cap as shown in Fig. 3, and now pin 20 can be reciprocated within the body of the device so that wire 22 passes through and in and out of writing tube 14, thereby cleansing the latter.

When it is desired to cleanse the entire device, pin 19 can be completely removed from cap 16 by passing its short threaded portion 23 above the outer face of the cap, in which event the pin is completely removable. Now the cap can be unscrewed and the entire device can be thoroughly cleansed.

4. In a writing implement according to claim 2, and wherein an aperture is provided in the Wall of a body, and

wherein said resilient, bodily removable clip engages the outer surface of said body, said clip having two substantially semi-cylindrical, partly spaced lips so arranged that either of the lips can be caused to cover said aperture when the clip is turned about said body.
