DEVICE FOR CHECKING THE FLOW OF GAS.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMILL E. MARAss, of the city of St Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Devices for Checking the Flow of Gas, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, and in which-a Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device removed, and Fig. 2 is-a side view, showing the device located in-a gas-pipe, which is in section.
My invention relates to a device for limiting the flow of gas from the meter to the jet or jets, so that only the amount of gas will enter the supplypipe that the jet or jets are able to burn, so that thereis no pressure in thesupply-pipe to force more gas through the jet or jets than is consumed, which results in a great saving of gas, and prevents the undesirable escape of the same into the room.
My invention consists in a perforated plate or disk on one end of a rod or stem, to the other end of which is secured a spring for holding the plate in the pipe.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a perforated plate or disk secured to oneend of a rod or stem, B, to the other end of which is secured a spring, 0, consisting, preferably, of a curved spring-plate, as shown.
To insert the device into the gas-pipe D it would preferably be placed near the meter. It is only necessary to force the ends of the spring together, so that it will enter the pipe, 5 as shown in Fig. 2.
The device may be placed so that the disk will be below or above the spring. 1 have shown itabove.
The size or number of holes in the plate may 40 be increased or decreased, according to the amount of gas needed.
The device is cheap, answers its purpose effectually, and can be quickly removed from the pipeto be replaced by another which would 5 allow a greater or less amount of gas to pass.
The ends of the rod or stem should extend beyond the disk and spring, to form fingerholds for inserting and removing the device into and from the pipe. 50
I claim as my invention A 1. In a device for regulating the flow of gas, the combination ofthe perforated plate, spring, and connecting rod or stem, made and operating substantially as set forth.
2. In a device for regulating the flow of gas, the combination of the perforated plate,spring, and connecting rod or stem, the spring consisting of a bent plate, as shown and described.
3. In a device for regulating the flow of gas, the combination of the perforated plate, spring, and rod or stem, the ends of the rod or stem extending beyond the plate and spring, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
