Description
(N0 Model I. PELBER. BUTTONILY CLAMP.
Patented Jan. 1
WITNESSES INVENTOR J4Za ATTORNEYS. I I
1 UNITED STATES PATENT Trice.
ISIDOB FELBER, OF NYACK, NEW YORK.
BUTTON-FLY CLAMP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 291,316, dated January 1, 1884.
Application filed November 6, 18-3. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern: 1
Be it known that I, ISIDOR FELBER, of Nyack, Rockland county, New York, have in vented a new and Improved Button-Fly Clamp,
of which the following is a full, clear, and eX- act description.
The object of my invention is to facilitate the labor of scalloping shoe-button laps or flies, and to avoid the necessity of making nailholes in the stock; and the invention consists of the construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, all as hereinafter described and claimed. I
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures.
Figure 1 is a plan View of my new and improved button-fly clamp, showing the method of using the clamp; and Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same.
A represents the base of the device, which i may be the top of a table or bench. To this base A is secured, by the screws a a, the main casting B, which is formed with the overhanging arm or extension 0, through which the screw D works. The arm 0 is formed with the side projections, b, which have the plain orifices 0 made in them.
To the lower end of the screw D is swiveled the clamp-plate D, which is curved, as shown in Fig. 1, and formed or provided with the pins cl, which enter the orifices c, and thus serve as guides to the up-anddown movement of theplate D in using the clamp.
In use the stock to be scalloped and shaped into button laps or flies is first properly placed under the plate D, as shown at E. The pattern F is then placed upon the stock and the screw D turned by the handle D for bringing the clamp'plate D down snugly upon the pattern and stock, for holding the same while the stock is being cut and scalloped. In this manner it will be seen that the necessity for driving nails through the stock is avoided, and that much labor and time are saved by the use of the clamp, and that the clamp is convenient and practical for its purpose 5 and in order to prevent' the pattern F from coming in contactgu with the casting B, so as to become worn and injured, I provide the casting B, at its forward corners, with the cushions c e, of leather,
held in place'in dovetailed recesses formed in the casting, as will be understood from the drawings.
. Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In a button fiy clamp, the casting B, having the arm 0, provided with the apertured side projections, 12 c, in combination with the screw I), working in said casting, and having the swiveled plate D, provided with the pins d, fitting into the apertures of the casting projections i), substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. In a button-fly clamp, the plate D, swiveled to the operating-screw, and provided with pins d for guiding the plate, substantially as described.
3. The casting B of a button-fly clamp, provided at its forward edge with the cushions e e for protecting the pattern F, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
ISIDOR FELBER.
