BUCKLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 291,275, dated January 1, 1884. Application filed August 2, 1883. (No model.)
To QZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, FRANK S. BELOHER and J OHN B. BELCHER, citizens of, the United States of America, residing at Charlotte, in the county of Eaton and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useiul Improvements in Buckles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
Our invention relates to an improvement in buckles, which are especially adapted for use on shoes; and it consists in a buckle having bars and halfbars, and so constructed as to avoid the use of a tongue, and hence tongueapertures in the buckle-strap, substantially as hereinafter more fully described.
In the drawings, Figure'l is a plan view of the buckle. Fig. 2 is a perspective showing the buckle as attached and buckled, and Fig. 3 is a side elevation.
In carrying out our invention we construct a buckle having the elevated cross-bars A and" A, the buckle being secured at -A to the shoe or other article, and provided with the halfbars B and B, frame-bar-D, and end bars, F and G. The half-bar B is constructed as shown, I
and caused to project slightly above the frame of the buckle, in order that the strap may be readily'slipped under it, and the structure of the semi-bar B, which projects out from the frameC and on the same horizontal plane, admits the strap being very readily slipped beneath it, by which the parts to be secured may be most effectually and quickly buckled to any degree of tightness required, thus avoiding the troublesome use of the tongue and strap-holes.
What we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a buckle, the combination of the end 40 bars, F and G, frame'bar D, elevated crossbars A and A, and halfibars B and B, substantially as shown, and for the purpose described.
In testimony, w hereof we affix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
