' PACKAGES FOR COAT HANGERS Filed March 27, 1958 IN VENTOR. fiwz/ l'z 4 S58 United States Patent PACKAGES FOR COAT HANGERS Philip S. Glaser, Hewlett, N.Y.
Application March 27, 1958, Serial No. 724,364
2 Claims. (Cl. 206-65) This invention relates primarily to the packaging of coat hangers, and particularly in the sale thereof in groups of one-half dozen or more, and where the hangers are of superior quality and may conveniently be displayed by a retail store in a group.
The characteristic of the invention is that the individual hangers of a group, each having the usual wire hook element, are held in laterally spaced position, but preferably overlapping, on a rod, the assembly being placed in a shallow box and the rod held against endwise movement by attachment to the wall of the box. Thus the assembly is virtually one unit, and can be moved as such, and when the end of the rod carries a hook, this assembly may be mounted on a rod for attractive display, and also used in retail shops for the hanging of a plurality of garments for their display.
The invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. l is a plan view of a box, uncovered at its top and showing therein a group of coat hangers related in accordance with the invention and on a holding rod;
Fig. 2 is a vertical section on the line 22, Fig. 1; and
Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing in dotted lines an overhead bar and a group of the hangers, on a rod, held by the bar.
Referring to the drawings, I have shown at 1 a shipping box, which may be of cardboard, and which will have a cover, as usual in packaging.
Within the box is a rod 2, preferably of wood, its outer end abutting wall 3 of the box and secured thereto, preferably by a stud or tack 4 In this embodiment, the rod is formed with six apertures, each of which receives the wire hook 5 of a coat hanger 6, the package being designed for one-half dozen coat hangers. The members 6, as shown in Fig. l, are preferably overlapped, this being secured by the degree of distance between the apertures at 7 in the rod 2.
2,909,279 ?atented Oct. 20, 1959 The topmost aperture is preferably formed with the rod 2 for a section of a swingable hook 8.
The assembly of coat hangers with their rods may readily be laid into the box 1, the rod held firmly in position, with the coat hangers underneath, by means of the tack or stud 4. Any other suitable means for holding the rod onto a Wall of the box may be employed. The rod with its attached swingable coat hangers may be removed from the box by pulling out the securing element 4, and thereupon the coat hangers may individually be removed, as purchased, or the rod may be hung upon a holding bar 9, and in vertical position, for attractive display. This assembly of the coat hangers is particularly desirable in retail stores because garments in number equivalent to the number of coat hangers used, may be hung on the hangers. When the garments are of the same length, the lower areas of all of the garments will be exposed for inspection of material, and the topmost garment may be used to show the style of all of the underlying garments of different material. This and other elements of utility are apparent.
It will be understood that various modifications may be made in the form of the garment hangers 6 without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is as follows:
1. In packages for coat hangers, a box, a plurality of coat hangers arranged in staggered relationship, a rod formed with a plurality of spaced apertures, a wire hook forming an element of each coat hanger, the hook being passed through an aperture in the rod, and means connecting the rod to the box and preventing endwise movement thereof.
2. In packages for coat hangers, a box, a plurality of coat hangers arranged in staggered relationship, a rod formed with a plurality of spaced apertures, a wire hook forming an element of each coat hanger, the hook being passed through an aperture in the rod, an additional aperture near an end of the rod and adjacent a wall of the box, a wire hook element having an end passed through said last named aperture, said hook element being swingable from a position inwardly directed of the box and adapted to be swung outwardly substantially in line with the rod to serve as a hanger element for the rod and the hangers supported thereon.
