z claims. (Cl. .ss- 66) United States Patent the section of the garment desired to be pressed on a` slender form or buck whereupon a longitudinal portion of the garment is pressed by bringing a presser head down smartly against the buck.
A primary diiliculty with such presses of the prior art .has been due to the fact that the longitudinal spatulate form or buck, while adapted for pressing a certain ,type of garment section, has not been readily inter- 4changeable with bucks of other configuration, thus limiting the versatility of such presses.
Itis therefore an object of this invention to provide 'an improved buck structure wherein a plurality of forms may be readily interchanged for pressing various surfaces;
Itis still a further object of this invention to provide a means in a power driven pressing machine wherein the basic supporting form may be utilized with a plurality of different adaptors for presenting pressing surfaces of adjustable configuration;
It is still a further object of this invention to provide a stationary form containing a steam chest upon which a plurality of buck pressing surfaces may be positioned;
It is still a further object of this invention to provide `a new and useful interchangeable buck pressing Asurface having novel means for securing the buck padding and cover thereon;
Still further objects of this inventon reside in the provision of a supporting form and adaptable covering plates therefor whereupon a plurality of buck forms may be utilized with a single pressing head;
Still a further object of this invention is the provision of an overlay pressing form having unique stiffening means for positioning upon a support.
Cther and further objects of this invention reside in the specific constructional details of the interchangeable buck surfaces including the stitfening webs, arcuate conguration and cover securing ange and in the means for securing the cover thereto;
Still further'objects of this invention are those inherent and apparent inthe apparatus as described, pictured and claimed.i
AThis invention will be. described with reference to the same parts and in which:

The buck 14 comprises a longitudinal support 15 havingV web reinforcing portions 16 at each end thereof. The support 15 is attached to the frame 11 by any suitable manner, usually being bolted thereto.
Positioned on the buck support 15 is the buck casting 17 which is of the configuration shown in Figures 2, 4 and 5. The casting is provided with a hollow steam chest 18, an arcuate upper surface 19 and ya peripheral flange 20. The casting 17 may be formed integral with longitudinal support 15 or formed separate therefrom and connected thereto in any conventional manner.
Positioned on the casting'17 is the adapter generally designated 22. Adapter 22 comprises an arcuate padding supporting surface 23 and a depending flange 24. The arcuate supporting surface 23 provides the'outline for the buck 14 as shown in Figure 4. The peripheral ilange 24 may be formed integral With the supporting surface 23, but in the embodiment shown in Figure 6, `has been formed separately therefrom and braized thereto. Positioned vupon the arcuate surface 23 is the buck padding 26 over which is placed the buckcover 28. Cover 28 is roughly of the configuration of the'support- 24 and secured'thereto by a'plurality of U-.clips-Stlhaving' snagA teethV 31 as :shown in'Fig'u'res 8 and 9 In'this instance clips 30 are resiliently positioned over the ange 24 and the upturned edge so as to provide a plurality of retainers for the buck cover around the periphery of adapter 22. Or, as shown in Figures 6 and 7, cover 28 may be provided around its edge with a bead 25 which is adapted to be caught under a plurality of hook clips position thereon by the cooperation of flange 20.

As shown in Figure 6, the pressing head 32 is provided with an arcuate surface 33 which cooperateswith the arcuate surface formed by the buck cover 28- and follows the contour of adapter 22. The pressing head 'is also provided with the conventional steam chest 34.
Referring `now specifically to the form of adapter 22 :shown in Figure 4, it will be seen that the buck casting 17 as shown by the dotted lines in Figure 4 is generally of the contour of the adapter 22. However, depending flange 24 of adapter 22 which abuts the peripheral flange 20 of casting 17 throughout the major portion thereof, *is spaced away therefrom at 35 and 36 to give a rounded contour to the pressing surface. The adapter 22 is pre- .vented from movement relative to casting 17 by the 'peripheral fiange 24.

The spacer block 41 has a depending web 42 which abuts flange 20 as shown best in Figure 7. It may be noted that flange 20 is diminished in extent at portion 43 of the kidney shaped buck casting 17 as shown in Figure 6.
Referring now to the modification 50 of the buck `casting shown in FigureflO and the modification 51 of the adapter for cooperation therewith, it will be undershown in Figure 10, the buck casting 50 is an elongated "substantially triangular member and the arcuate buck 51 is rectangular. A plurality of depending stifiening -gussets S2, 53, 54 and 55 isprovided to fixedly position the adapter 51 relative to the casting 50.
Likewise, as shown in Figure 10, the pressing head S8 utilized for cooperation with buck 51 of that figure is As shown with reference to adapter 59. Adapter 59 is spaced only slightly away from the triangular buck casting 56 andV is positionedrelative thereto by a plurality of relatively small lugs 61.
Thus, it will be seen that with reference to the modi- -cation shown in Figures 1-7, there is provided a somewhat rectangular pressing head which is adapted for ney-shaped buck casting 17 having a lower steam chest 18L therein. The pressing head 32 is conventional and n is provided with an upper steam chest 34.
AIn the modification shown in Figures 10-13, the buck 4 casting is a triangular casting S0 upon which is supported either a rectangular adapter 51 or a substantially triangular adapter 59. If it lis desired to interchange the adapter 59 with adapter 51, adapter 51 is merely lifted off casting 50 and adapter 59 dropped in position thereon as shown in Figures 11 and 13, while the pressing head is in the position shown in Figure 1. An arcuate cooperating surface of the buck cooperates with the arcuate supporting surface of the casting to provide a means of heat transferal to the buck pad and cover.
in the modification shown in Figures l7, the buck casting 17 is of the shape shown in Figure 3. Upon casting 17 is supported either a kidney-shaped adapter 22 or an oval-shaped adapter 40'. When it is desired to interchange the adapter 22 with the adapter 40 adapter 22 is merely lifted off casting 17 and adapter 40 dropped in position thereon as shown in Figures 5 and 7. It will be maintained in position by the cooperating engagement of peripheral flange 24 with the extending flange 20 of the buck casting.
lIt is, of course, to be understood, in cooperation with this invention that other shapes of removable adapters may beprovided as well as other shapes of buck castings without departing from the spirit and scope thereof.
As many apparently widely differing embodiments of this invention may be made without` departing from the spirit and scope thereof, it is to be understood thatyl do not limit myself specifically to the embodiments disclosed herein.
What I claim is:
1. A pressing machine having thereon a frame, a buck on the frame having a heated upper buck surface ofva certain shape and size defined by the peripheral edge of said surface, said buck surface vbeing adapted to serve as a support for any one of a plurality of differently shaped removable buck pads adapted to cover the buck surface, a plurality of differently shaped buck pads each shaped to cover the buck surface and to have portions thereof extending beyond the peripheral edge of said buck! surface, each of said pads having a resilient padding on its upper surface and an undersurface fitted complementary to the buck surface so that heat from the buck is conducted to the pad, each of said pads having downwardly extending tabs on the underside thereof arranged to contact spaced opposed portions of the buck along several axesl of the buck to removably secure the pad and hold it from displacement on the buck, a pressure arm having a presser head thereon said arm being pivotally mounted on the frame for movement of the presser head into and out of engagement with the buckY pad, the shape and size of said presser head being such that it completely covers each of the removable buck pads placed on the buck.
2. The pressing machine specified in claim 1 further characterized in that said tabs are shaped to extend substantially to the edge of the pad to form a stiffenin'g reinforcement for those portions of thepad which extend beyond the peripheral edge of the buck.
