SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 288,280, dated November 13, 1683.
d Application filed September 5, 1863. (No model.)
iro all whom L may concern,.-
y Be it known that We, ROBERT E. TIMONEY and CHARLES R. BROWN, of Patten, in the county of Penobscot and State of Maine, have invented anew and useful Improvement in Dust-Pans; and We dohereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the same, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
Our invention relates to dust-pans, and the novelty consists in the construction, arrangement, and adaptation of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter set forth, and pointed out in the claims.
The invention is fully illustrated in the accoinpanying"v drawings, in which Figure l is a top plan view, showing in dotted lines the Wings of the dust-pan elevated; and Fig. 2 is an edge section taken on the line n; in Fig. l.
Referring to the drawings, A designates a ferrule, which is permanently attached to the pan B, separate parts of which will be hereinafter designated as B B2 B3. The body of the pan, as B, is rigid With the handle or ferrule A, and/ has jointed connection with folding Wings, which are. integral with the structure of the pan.
lt frequently happens that a contracted chute is desirable in discharging dust and the* like from the pan. We provide for such emergency by constructing .the pan with folding Wings, substantially as illustrated. To the body at b are hinged or otherwise connected Wings B', and links or Wires B2, operating through guides B3, serve to allow theV said Wings to be folded upon the body, as shown.
It will be observed that obvious advantages accrue, owing to the .fact of providing folding Wings to our dust-pan, and modifications in details of construction may be made Without departing from theprinciple or sacriiicin g the advantages of the invention. Hence we do not liinit ourselves to the precise construction shown and described, but reserve to ourselves the right to make all such changes .and alterations as may properly fall Within the scope of our invention.
l/Vhat We claim isy 1. A dust-pan having folding Wings, and adapted to serve substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
2. The body B, having ferrule A and hinged Wings B', substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
3. The folding dust-pan herein described, consisting ofthe body B, ferrule A, the folding Wings, and connections, substantially as set forth. 4 l
This speciiication signedand witnessed this 1st day of September, 1883.
ROBERT E. TIMONEY. CHARLES R. BROWN.
