1 Claim. (Cl. 89-37) The present invention relates to stands for pistols and is more particularly directed to devices for supporting pistols in an upright position.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a universal stand for pistols which can firmly support all types and sizes of side arms such as revolvers and automatic pistols, in an upright position and in such a manner as to present the pistol free from obstructions whereby the pistol can be viewed or worked on from all sides thereof.
p A further and important object of the invention is to provide an economically producible stand for pistols for a retaining the weapon in a standing position for display, test firing, work or like purposes and which stand is quickly and easily adjustable for supporting weapons of different barrel or handle lengths.
A Stiilyflll'thfil' object of the invention is to provide a collapsible and adjustable support for pistols in com bination with a container therefor forming a self-contained side arm cleaning and storage kit.
Further objects of the invention will be in part obvious and in part pointed out in the following description of the accompanying drawings, wherein Fig. l is a side elevation of a stand according to'the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a top' view of said stand.
. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section through the stand.
Fig. 4 is a lateral cross section taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 is a further cross section taken on line 5--5 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 6 is a cross sectionalview taken on line 66 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 7 is a front perspective of an enlarged pistol handle butt supporting block forming part of the present stand.
Fig. 8 is a perspective view of a modified form of the present stand in a partially open position.
Fig. 9 is similar to Fig. 8, but with the stand in a pistol supporting position.
Fig. 10 is a perspective view looking downwardly upon the modified form of stand in its storage position.
Fig. 11 is a longitudinal section through the modified stand with the elements thereof in their pistol supporting position.
Fig. 12 is similar to Fig. 11, but with the elements of the stand in their storage position.
Fig. 13 is a detail section laterally of the stand showing the connection of the standard to the container.
Fig. 14 is a bottom perspective view of a pistol handle butt supporting block.
Fig. 15 is a top rear perspective view of said block.
Fig. 16 is a perspective view of a further modified form of stand with the elements thereof in their storage position, and
Fig. 17 is similar to Fig. 16, but with the elements in their pistol supporting position.
Referring now more in detail to the accompanying drawings, wherein like and corresponding parts are designated by similar reference characters, numeral 1 indicates a rectangular elongated supporting base having a substantially flat upper face 2 and a flat lower face 3 substantially parallel to said upper face. cushions 4 are each positioned at a corner of said lower face for supporting said base.
A series of cylindrical recesses 5 extend longitudinally of said upper-face 2 adjacent a side thereof. A similar series of cylindrical recesses 6 are provided in said upper face 2 and extend substantially parallel to said'series of. recesses 5 with recesses of each series being diametrically opposite to one another.
Said upper face 2 of base 1 further has a laterally ex tending recess 7 formed therein and extending completely across said upper face. A standard 8 has the lower end thereof mounted within said recess at 7, while its upper end has a Y-shaped pistol barrel supporting recess 9. A plurality of screws 10 extend through said base '1 into the lower end portion of said standard for supporting the same substantially perpendicular to and from said upper face 2.
A pistol handle butt supporting and retaining block '11 is detachably positioned on said upper face 2 having a flat bottom 12 for coinciding with said upper face. From said bottom 12 extends back 13 of said block sub stantially perpendicular to said bottom, while the top 14 which is substantially parallel to said bottom only extends part way across said block where it is terminated by a front wall 15 having a semi-circular recess provided therein as well as in said top 14. An intermediate surface 17 extends from said wall 15 and recess 16 substantially parallel to said bottom and is joined thereto by a front wall 18 having a semi-circular recess 19 formed therein as well as in said intermediate portion 17. This arrangement provides a block having a stepped formation for supporting pistol handles of varying lengths. In addition, a pair of diametrically opposite pegs 20-21 extend downwardly from said bottom 12 and are positioned for each being detachably inserted in one of said recesses 5 and 6 respectively.
In Figs. 8 to 12 inclusive, there is shown a modified form of the present pistol stand which consists of a rectangular elongated box 25 having a substantially flat bottom 26 in which are provided two parallel series of cylindrical recesses 27 and 28 which extend longitudinally of said box and also a laterally extending recess 29. A pair of shoulders 30 extend along the inner sides of said 'box from said recess 29 and parallel to said bottom, but spaced thereabove. A standard 31 has the lower end thereof slidably insertable in said slot 29, while its op posite end has a Y-shaped recess 32 for supporting pistol barrels. In addition, said standard 31 has an elongated opening 33 extending therethrough from the opposite side thereof. A pin 34 extends from the sides of box 25 through said opening 33.
A pistol butt supporting block 35 is positioned between said shoulders 30 and this block is similar to block 11 as described in the modification of Fig. 1. That is, it has a flat bottom 36 from which extends pegs 37 and 38 for being inserted in recess 27 and 28 respectively and a partial top surface 39 having a semi-circular recess 40 which extends downwardly to the intermediate surface 41 which also has a semi-circular recess 42 extending to said bottom 36 providing a stepped pistol butt supporting block.
A plurality of hinges 45 pivotally connect box 25 to a similar open topped box 46 in order that these boxes can be pivoted one upon the other providing a closed container. The interior 47 of box 46 is capable of receiving various types of pistols A. Said box 46 in addition has a A plurality of reeess'. 48' in one-end. thereof from which: extends. slots. 49
and 50 along the inner side wall of said box for receiving a flanged plate 51 for closing and opening the open top ofisaid box 46. i
InFigs. 16 and 17, there isshown: aafurther modified form of the present stand and which. is similar to the previousform in having a box 25,. standard 31 support block 35: and hinges 45. In this form of: the invention; however, said hinges 45 are connected to a substantially flat cover 55 from which extends a projecting intermediate portion 56 capable of fitting within the opening of said box.25 whereby the same can be closed by said cover 55:
By mounting. the. barrelB of pistol A within the arms offrecess9 and placing the buttendof the handle-C Within either? recess 16. or 19 of blocle. 11 depending upon the length of said handle, the pistol will be supported in the manner shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. The pistol is thus openon all sides whereby. it can be displayed, or it equally aswell can be worked upon. or test fired or the like; since block 11. is detachably retained to base 1 by the insertion of pegs 2t and 21 within recesses and 6' respectively. Said block. 11 canbe positioned along base 1 by inserting said pegs. within thereceiving recesses for any desired position to or from standard 9. Thus short barrel or long barrel side arms can be accommodated and also long or short handle weapons can be-positioned on block 11. For weapons having cylinder releasing bolts; as; for example revolvers, such bolts can fit Within the leg of the Y-shaped recess9.
A similar stand is shown in the modification of Figs;
8' to 12, except that the bottom 26 of a: box 25 has the recesses 27 and 23 aswell as slot29 for retaining block 35 andstandard 31 in various positions for supporting the pistol as shown. in Fig. 9. be lifted, upwardly from slot 29 and pivoted about pin 34 until it extends substantially horizontal resting on shoulders 30. Cleaning rags, gun oil and grease and The standard 31 can be In addition, standard 31 can.
quickly. raised: to1- supporting position by pivoting: the
same around pin 34 and inserting the lower end of the standard into slot 29. Block 35 can then be positioned to suit the particular weapon being mounted thereon.
In the modification of Figs. 16 and 17, standard 31 can be similarly folded as shown in Fig. 16 and cover placed thereon for closing: the box. The gun cleaning and maintaining equipment as aforementioned can be stored within box 25 until such time as the same is opened and again used; as a pistol support.
The present device is capable of considerable modification and such changes thereto as come within the scope of the appended claim are deemed to be a part of the invention.
