Description

w. WRIGHT.
Gas Burner.
Patentd Jun 12,1860.
JIll/IJ II frz zreni a r N. PETERS. Photo-Lithograph". Washington. D. c.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WENDELL WRIGHT, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
GAS-BURNER.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 28,709, dated June 12, 1860.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WENDELL Vnrcrrr, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new Self-Adjustable Gas Burner or Meter to Regulate the Quantity of Gas Escaping from the Burner to the Flame; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a longitudinal section showing the partition plate A, dividing the chamber of the burner which is round and about one inch long and half of one inch in diameter more or less, into two parts, also showing the slit F through which all the gas passes to the flame, also showing the swinging valve B with the piston rod C connected therewith. Fig. 2 is another longitudinal sect-ion at right angles with Fig, 1. Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the upper end of the partition plate A showing the gas-way D. Fig. 4 is a transverse section of the lower end of the partition plate A showing the gas-way through which the piston rod plays.
The same letters have reference to the same parts in all the different figures.
The gas passes up through E, through F, through D, and out through the tips of the burner to the flame. As the gas passes up around the piston head C it lifts it up moves the swinging or slide valve B over the slit F reducing its size, checking the current around the piston head C producing a uniform current of gas to the flame.
WVliat I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is The partition plate A in combination with the piston C and valve B as herein described, and for the purposes specified.
VVENDELL WRIGHT.
