United Statesv Patent O SANITARY TALCUM DUSTER Vladimir N. Trutneff, San Francisco, Calif. Application September 25, 1957, Serial No. 686,080 3 Claims. (Cl. 15-131.1)
The present invention relates to a new and improved article of manufacture, comprising a sanitary talcum duster, or brush, of the type used for the application of talcum powder where needed, wherein a hollow handle or stock7 having conventional tufted bristles, is provided with a plurality of apertures in the bottom thereof feeding directly into said bristles and between the tufts, and operates in conjunction with a container in said hollow stock, said container having an apertured or perforated bottom nor-mally closed, for retaining talcum, together with a cup normally closing said container, and a rod for moving said cup to open said perforated container, to sift unadulterated talcum into the bristles of said brush.
The primary object of the present invention is to provide a new and improved talcum dusting brush having improved means adapted to convey talcum from a sanitary container and sift the said talcum on a surface where it is required, to prevent the contact of any foreign matter which might contaminate said talcum.
Another object is to provide a new and improved device of the ycharacter set -forth having improved means adapted to dispense or sift talcum.
The improvement comprises the device disclosed in the drawings forming a part of the present application, in which- Figure 1 is a vertical, longitudinal sectional view;
Figure 2 is an enlarged transverse section, of the container and covering cup; taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1, in the direction indicated; and
Figure 3 is a transverse section of the body of the brush, taken on line 3-3 of Figure l, in the direction indicated.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 4 is used to designate in general a dusting brush, or duster, for dispensing talcum powder or the like, having a hollow body 6 having apertures 8 interposed between conventional tufts or bristles 10 depending from said body 6.
A powder, or talcum container 12 is rigidly fixed within the hollow body and is provided with apertures 14 in the bottom thereof adapted to dispense talcum or the like therethrough into said hollow body 6. A cup 16 is slidably mounted for longitudinal movement only on the container 12 and is provided with an apertured bottom having apertures 18 offset `from the apertures 14, so that when said cup is closed upon the bottom of the container, the apertures 14 will be closed, as disclosed in section in Figure 1. A suitable spring 20 is interposed between the bottom of the cup 16 and the bottom of the hollow portion 6 of the brush 4, the tension of which spring 20 operates to retain the cup 16 in closed position.
A rod or plunger 22 is fastened at its lower end to the cup 16, and extends upwardly through a hollow handle 24 of the brush 4, so that when said rod or plunger 24 the tension of said spring 20, the cup 16 is moved away from the perforated bottom of the container 12 and the perforations thereof are then opened, and a shake or tapping upon the body 4 will sift talcum 26 through the apertures 14 and 18, into the hollow body 6 and thence through the final apertures 8 into the bristles 10.
To facilitate replenishment of the talcum or other powder, the top or handle portion 24 is screwthreaded to the hollow body 6 by the screw threads 28.
By means of this improved duster, the talcum or the like is enclosed from contamination, and is sifted directly into the bristles 10, by means of which the talcum may be applied to any surface where needed, and the powder is contained in a sanitary condition between applications, and readily and efficiently dispensed.
Having described my invention, I claim- 1. In a new article of manufacture, a sanitary talcum duster comprising a brush having a hollow perforated bottom; a container within said bottom having a perforated bottom; a cup also having a perforated bottom and slidably mounted upon said container, with said cup perforations offset from the perforations of said container; spring means for normally holding the bottomof said cup against the bottom of said container to close the perforations therein; and a plunger secured to said cup and adapted to move the same away from the bottom of said container.
2. In a new article of manufacture, a sanitary talcum duster comprising a brush having a hollow perforated bottom; conventional bristle tufts extended downwardly from said bottom and around said perforations therein; a container rigidly mounted within said hollow bottom and having a perforated bottom; a cup slidably mounted for longitudinal movement only on said container and having perforations in the bottom thereof offset :from the perforations in said container; a spring adapted to normally close said cup against said container to close the apertures therein, and a plunger slidably mounted within said brush and connected to said cup to move the same away from the bottom of said container.
3. In a new article of manufacture, a sanitary talcum duster comprising a brush having a hollow perforated bottom; conventional bristles extended downwardly from said bottom and around said perforated bottom; a container rigidly mounted within said hollow bottom and having a perforated bottom; a cup slidably mounted for longitudinal movement only upon the bottom of said container and having perforations in the bottom thereof offset from the perforations of said container; spring means between the bottom of said hollow bottom and the bottom of said cup adapted to urge said cup onto said container and close the perforations therein; a hollow handle extending upwardly from said hollow bottom; and a plunger connected at its lower end to said cup and extending upwardly through said hollow handle and adapted to move said cup away from the perforated bottom of said container and open the apertures in the bottom thereof.
