J. O. JESSUP.
OOLOR CAN.
Patented Oct. 2, 1 883.
full I] INVENTOR W) E S S E N T I W ATTORNEYS.
UNITED TATES JOHN G. JESSUP, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
COLOR-CAN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 286,015, dated October 2, 1883.
' Application tiled March 31, 1883. (No model.)
.170 aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, JOHN C. JEssUP, of the city. county and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in C01- or-Oans, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is a sectional side elevation of one of my improved cans. Fig. 2 is a-sectional plan View of the same, taken through the line 00 00, Fig. 1.
The object of this invention is to facilitate the discharge of prepared color or paint from cans.
The invention consists in a color-can con structed with a central discharge-opening and provided with a swiveled right and left screw and two pressure-disks moving from the ends of the can toward its center, so that all the color can be discharged from the can, as set forth. I
A represents a color-can, which is made with a close head at each end, and is provided with a discharge-opening, B, in the center of 7 its side. The opening B has a collar, 0, secured in it, which is closed with a cap, D. To the heads of the can A is swiveled a screw, E, which passes through the center of the can and through its upper head, and has a small hand-wheel, F, secured to its projecting upper end, for convenience in operating it. Upon one halfof the part of the screw E within the can Ais formcdaright screw-thread, and uponthe other halfis formed a left screw-thread. The screw E passes through screw-holes in the centers of the disks or false heads G, placed at the inner sides of the heads of the can A, and which are kept from turning by the seam H of the body of the can A, which enters recesses I in the edges of the disks G, or by other suitable means. Vith this construction, by turning the screw E in one direction, the disks G will be moved toward the center of the can, forcing the color out through the discharge-opening B, and by turning the said screw in the other direction the said disks will be drawn back toward the heads of the can. \Vith this construction, also, less of the color will be left in the can when the operation of discharging is finished than when the discharge-opening is made near one end of the can and a single discharging-disk is used.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent--- 1. A color-can made substantially as herein shown and described, and consisting of a can having a central dischargeopening and provided with a swiveled right and left screw and two pressuredisks, as set forth.
2. The combination, with the can A, having central discharge opening, of the swiveled right and left screw E and two pressure-disks, G, substantiallyas herein shown and described, whereby all the color can be discharged from the can, as set forth.
JOHN C. JESSUP.
