DEVICE FOR MAINTAINING IN PLACE A BOBBIN-SUPPORTING 'PANEL IN A SEWING MACHINE WITH A ROTARY HOOK Filed April 11, 1956 .isl
In ventor 4/vT0w/o Mama jww'w W Alto ney United States Patent Ofiice 2,856,875 Patented Oct. 21, 1958 DEVICE FOR MAINTAINING IN PLACE A BOBBIN- SUPPORTING PANEL IN A SEWING MACHINE WITH A ROTARY HOOK Antonio Moro, Milan, Italy Application April 11, 1956, Serial No. 577,605
Claims priority, application Italy April 13, 1955 2 Claims. (Cl. 112-228) In sewing machines with a rotary hook, a retaining finger engages in a recess in the bobbin-carrying case and usually serves to hold this case in place during the rotation of the hook supporting it.
However, due to the unavoidable play between this finger and the recess during the operation of the machine, and particularly each time after the formation of the loop when the thread is drawn from the bobbin by the thread tensioner below it, there occurs a periodic striking of this case against the retaining finger, producing a noise that disturbs the operator.
The present invention provides a device for maintaining in place a case of the type mentioned above comprising a retaining finger engaged in a recess in the case, in which by simple means the striking movement of the case against the retaining member is deadened in a very effective manner.
According to the invention, the retaining finger mounted for oscillation on its support is located between two resilient rings of rubber or the like mounted on this support and adapted to deaden the impacts between the support and the finger when they occur.
One of these rings is fixed while the other is arranged for longitudinal displacement so as to regulate as required the play between the finger and the rings.
For this purpose, the movable ring is preferably held in place on its support by means of a small plate overlying it, which plate is fixed on the support by means of a screw passing through a slot or elongated hole provided in the plate. It is only necessary to loosen this screw to shift the small plate and the ring with it in the desired manner.
An example of construction is shown in the drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section through the device on line A-A of Fig. 2; and
Fig. 2 is a plan view.
The retaining finger 1 is engaged in a recess 2 in the case 2 and, to prevent its rotation, it is mounted on a support member 3 by means of a screw 4 about which it can undergo small oscillations between a pair of rubber rings 5, 6, mounted one at each side. One of these rings, 6, is fixed to the support member 3 by a screw 7 while the other ring, 5, held in place by a small plate 8 having a boss projecting into ring 5, can be displaced longi tudinally after loosening a screw 9, which fixes the plate 8 in place. Screw 9 passes through a slot or elongated hole 8'. By this displacement it is possible to regulate the magnitude of the angular movements of the retaining finger 1.
Having described my invention, I claim:
1. A device for restraining the rotation of the bobbincarrying case of a sewing machine, in which said case is provided with a recess, comprising a support, and a retaining finger, means mounting said retaining finger for oscillatory movement on said support with one end of the finger extending therefrom adapted to engage said recess, a first resilient abutment mounted on said support on one side of said finger and in juxtaposition therewith, a second resilient abutment on the other side of said finger and in juxtaposition therewith, and means mounting said second abutment on said support for adjustment towards and away from said first abutment to regulate the play between said finger and said abutments.
2. The device of claim 1, said abutments constituting rings, said latter mentioned means comprising a plate having a slot therein, securing means extending through said slot and engaging said support to hold said plate thereon, said plate having a part extending into the hole of said second abutment ring.
