UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
EDWARD BARNARD, OF ROME, NEV YORK.
HORSE- BOOT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters atent No. 285,552, dated September 25, 1883.
Application filed August 10, 1883. (N o model.)
.T0 all whom, it 717/6141/ concern:
Beit known that I, EDWARD BAENARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rome, in the county of Oneida and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Horse- Boot, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to quarter-boots for horses; and it consists in certain improvements in the construction of the same, whereby when the boot is placed in position it will adjust itself to any width of heel or quarter or any height of quarter a horse may have, thereby preventing the boot from turning or creeping up behind, or becoming otherwise displaced from its proper position.
In the drawings hereto annexed, Figure l is a perspective view of my improved horseboot part of the same having been broken away for the purpose of better showing the construction. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view of the same, and Fig. 3 is avertical transverse sectional view on the line x v in Fig. 2,
l The same letters refer to the same parts in all the gures.
A in the drawings designates the body of the horse-boot, which may be of any suitable well-known construction. It is provided at the front with straps and buckles B C, by means of which it may be secured in position upon the hoof of the horse.
D is an angular plate or stiffener, made of metal, wood, hard rubber, or any-other suitable material. This plate or block is secured by means of a flexible hinge-strap, E, to the inner rear side of the body A of the boot by means of rivets or in any other suitable manner. Riveted or otherwise attached to the rear side of the hinge-strap is a toe-strap, F, which passes around the inside of the boot and out through slots near the edges of the same, one of its ends being equipped with abuckle, by means'of lwhich it may be fastened upon the hoof of the animal.
The operation and advantages of this invention will be readily understood. It is simple, convenient, and efficient for the purposes set forth.
I claim as my invention and desire to secure. by Letters Patent of the United States* As an improvement in horse-boots, the combination of a suitably-constructed body, an angular stiffener connected to the inner rear side of the same -by means of a flexible hinge-strap, and a toe-strap secured to the hinge-strap, passing around the inside of the boot, out through slots near the edges of the same, and having one end equipped with a buckle, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
y EDWARD BARNARD.
