THEODORE O.'MUNGER, OF CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA, ASSIGNOR OE ONEHALE I"O LESTER M. RICH, OE SAME PLACE.
PUMP-BUCKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters PatentNo. 284,048, dated August 28, 1883.
Application iiled Apiil 7, 1983.
(No model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, TnEoDoRE C. MUNGEE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cedar Rapids, in the county of Linn and State of 5 Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pump-Buckets, of which the following is a speciiication, referencebeing` had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to certain improve- 1o ments in pump-buckets; and it has for its objects to provide a bucket which will be simple and inexpensive in construction, which can Vbe easily repaired, and which will not expand or contract or otherwise lose its shape while in i 5 use. l
The above-1nentioned objects I attain by the means illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which is represented a vertical sectional View of a pump-bucket constructed ac- 2o cording to my invention.
In the drawing, the letter A indicates the body of my pump-bucket, which is constructy ed of wood` or other non-metallic material of frustu'm shape, and provided with `a central 25 vertical aperture. The upper outer edge of the said body is rabbeted annular-ly, forming a seat for the flanged anuulus B.
The letter C indicates a iianged annulus, within which the lower portion oi' the body of 3o the bucket sets. The outer edge of the said lower annulus is about the thickness of the leather packing to be secured to the outside of the bucket. rIhese annuli are preferably constructedY of metal, and are provided with 3 5 apertures C', through which the clampingbolts D pass, the body ofthe bucket being provided with corresponding apertures, E, for the pas sage of said bolts. The bolts are curved at their upper ends and provided with shanks E, between which is secured the lower end of the 4o pu1np-rod Gr by means of the transverse bolts H. v rlhe upper and lower annuli are clamped to the irustum-shaped body of the bucket by means of the nuts I, secured to the lower ends of the vertical bolts D. The 'portion of the 45 body of the bucket on the outside forms aseat for the packing K, which is secured to suoli exposed portion ofthe body by means oi' nails or other fastening devices, which are driven into the wood. The upper annulus, if found 5o necessary, may be provided with openings through its dange, through which nails or fastening devices may be driven, if required, to further secure the packing. The valve of the bucket is secured to the body in the usual 5 5 place.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A pump-bucket consisting of a hollow non 6o metallic i'rustum, A, having an oblique rabbet at its upper edge, an upper coniining-annulus,
O', having an oblique iiange, and a lower aul nulus, C, a packing secured to the outside of the non-metallic portion, and the bifurcated 65 extensions of the pump-rod, and the coniining screws, all arranged substantially as and for the purposes speciiied..
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
. THEODORE C. MUN GER.
