AT TORNEY United States Patent This invention relates to improvements in garment hangers and, in oneof its more specific aspects, to an improved device for hanging trousers. The invention also pertains to a novel combination of an improved hanger for supporting a garment, such as a coat, and improved trouser hainging devices cooperatively and detachably associated therewith.-

Referring now to the drawings in which like reference numerals denote. corresponding parts throughout the several views, a coathanger is generally indicated by numeral 10 in Fig. 1. The coat hanger consists of a central hook 11, a pair of divergent parts 12 for receiving the shoulder portions of a coat or similar article of wearing apparel and a pair of arms 13 dependingfrom the ends of the shoulder parts. Hook 11 is preferably made of metal while shoulder parts 12 and arms 13 may be made of any suitable material, such as wood, metal or' plastic. Each arm is provided with a plurality of vertically spaced drill holes 14; A plurality of vertically the trouser parts to work out wrinkles resulting from wear.

, Another object of the invention is to provide a trouser hanger that may be readily and det'achably secured to a convenient support such as a door, a wall or a coat hanger of the type that will be described further along herein. The parts of the trouser hanger are so con-' structed and arranged with respect ,to. each other and with respect to the support and the trousers, when in active use, that the cuff portions of the trousers are maintained under tension along certaincrease lines. 'As a consequence, the trousers hang freely and properly, thereby preserving its creases.

The invention has for a further object the provision of a device of the character indicated that is simple and compact'in design, that is sturdy and durable in construction, that is adapted to be manufacturedatlow cost on a mass production basis, and that is capable of performing its intended functions in an entirely satisfactory manner.

With the enumerated objects and other objects in view, the invention comprises the devices, combinations and arrangements of parts set forth in the following detailed description and illustrated in the annexed drawings 'of preferred embodiments of the invention, from which the advantages of the invention Will be readily understood by persons skilled in the art.

Detachably secured to coat hanger 10 is a pair of identical trouser hanging devices 16 which :engage legs 17 and cuffs 18 of a pair of trousers 19 as shown in Figs. 1 and 3, whereby to freely suspend the trousersin the manner illustrated in Fig. 1. The trousers are pressed to obtain conventional crease lines. The crease lines of the trouser legs are identified by numeral 20, the vertical crease lines of the cuffs by numeral '21 and the crease line's at the juncture of each trouser leg and cufi by numeral 22. V 1 I g c Device 16 is best shown in Fig. 2 and is made up of two units, namely a first unit 23 and a second unit 24 which is pivotally or hingedly connected to the first unit. Unit 24 is in the. nature of a connector and is preferably made from' a length of relatively heavy gauge wire that is bent to obtain a rectilinearcentral part 30, an eye part '31 at one end and a hook part 32 at its other end. Eye part 31 extends through an opening 33 in the upper end of arm 28 and forms a pivot or hinge connection therewith. Hook part 32 is adapted to register with a selected drill hole 14, as shown in Fig. 1, or with a selected notch 15. It will be apparent from the drawing that hook part 32 may be easily and quickly attached to or detached from anarm of the coat hanger.

If desired, devices 16 may be readily secured to various types of supports instead of to the coat hanger. Such supports include doors, walls or other convenient locations in the home. For example, if hangers 16 are to be mounted on a door, hook parts 32 of the devices may be placed in engagement with corresponding. screw eyes, screw hooks, nails or the like that are fastened in proper location to the door.

Devices 16 are adapted to be readily placed in engagement with the cuff portions of the trouser legs and suspend the trousers from the coat hanger as shown in Fig. 1. At the time each device 16 is connected to the trouser legs, its plate members 25 are inserted between corresponding legs 17 and cuffs 18 and'arranged so that the parts assume the relative position shown in Figs. 1 and 3 with each device connected to a corresponding arm 13 of the coat hanger. A pair of devices 47 is adapted to engage the cuff portions of trousers 19 and suspend the trousers in substantially the same manner outlined above in respect to device 16.

From the foregoing, it is thought that the construction, operation, and advantages ofthe herein described invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art, without further description; and it will be understood that various changes in the size, shape, proportion and minor details of construction maybe resorted to without departing from the spirit, or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
