Roy Nasello, Brooklyn, N.-Y. Application July 25, 1955, Serial No. 524,?85 1 Claim. (Cl. 229-43) This invention relates to new and useful improvements in cartons or containers of the type used for drinks, ice cream, and other substances.

More particularly, the present invention proposes the construction of an improved container for potablesand other substances which has a cap or lid slidably and frictionally'secured to the body. of the container with a pull tape means secured at one end to the container easily and quickly to remove the cap or lid.

As a further object, the present invention proposes securing one end of the tape to the body portion of the container at one side of the container and forming the container of two-ply material'w'ith'the secured tape held between the two plies and extending from an upper rolled edge thereof and adapted to fit across the container and between the cap and the container with'the free end of the tape disposed outside the container beneath and below the cap.

Still further, the present invention proposes securing the tape at one end to the center of the cap, the cap being provided with a central opening for the tape to extend through and across the inside of the cap between the cap and the body of the carton or container for disposal of the free end of the tape outside the container.

Another object of the present invention proposes forming the tape as a cord secured around the upper edge of the body of the container at one side thereof and having a pull tab secured to the other end of the cord for disposal outside the container beneath the cap.

A further object of the present invention proposes forming the container cap with two plies and securing one end of the tape to the cap at one side thereof between the two plies, the tape being adapted to extend across the inside of the cap and between the cap and the body of the container at the opposite side of the cap for disposal of the free end of the tape outside the container. g

For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be .had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claim in which the various novel features of the invention are moreparticularly set forth.

The-container, in accordance with the first form of the invention illustrated in Figs. 1 to 3, inclusive, is desigor lid 1 7.' The body portion 16 is cylindrical and hollow with an upper open end 18 and a closed lower end 19 having a bottom 20 therein. v v

Bo'dy portion 16 preferably is made of two plies spiraled in opposite directions andhas a rolled upper edge 21 at the upper open end 18.

Cap 17 is of the same shape as thebody 16 and is adapted slidably andrernovable to fit over the open end 18 of the body 16 and onto the body. The cap 17'is frictionally held to the body of the container by its sliding material has one end 23 secured to the container, this end 23 being disposed between the two pli'es'24 and 25 fabricypaper or the like.

Tape 22 extends from the body 16 out the rolled edge 21 at one side of the body and is of a length sufiicient for the tape flatly to extend across the upper end 18 of the body and between and beyond the cap 17 and the body 16 at the other side of the body when the cap is on the body of the container. The thin flat tape extends between the outer side of the body and the inner side 26 or" the lip orllange 27 of the cap 17. The free end 28 of the. tape is disposed outside the body beneath the cap 17 and below the cap.

To remove the cap from the body when the tape is extending across the upper end of the body as described, itis necessary only to pull upon the free end 28 of the tape 22. This easily and quickly pries off the lid or cap.

The modification of the present invention illustrated in Fig. 4 is characterized by the provision of a carton or container 30 having a body 31 with a rolled upper edge 32. A cord opening 33 is provided in the body 31 adjacent the edge 32 at one side of the body. A tape or cord 34 extends through the cord opening 33 over and 7 around the edge 32 and to'the other end 35 of the cord is secured a tab 36 disposed outside the container. To remove a lid or cap from thecontainer all that is necessary is to pull up, on '.the tab.

The modification of the invention illustrated in Figs. 5 and dis characterized by the provision of a cap 40 for a container bodyM. The body 41 has the usual upper edge 42. Cap 40 has a central opening 43 through which extends a tape 44, one end of the tape being outside the cap 40 and disposed against the top 45 thereof and secured thereto as by a knot.

The tape 44 is a thin, flexible relatively wide band of a length to extend across'the inside of the cap 40 and down the flange or lip 46 of the cap between the cap and the body .41 when the cap is on the body. The free end 47 of tape 44 is disposed outside the body 41 beneath the cap when the cap is in place. a

The modification of the invention illustrated in Figs. 7 and 8 is characterized by the provision of a container 50 having a lid or cap 51 and a body 52. The cap 51 is made in two plies 53 and 54 and a tape 55 has one end 57 secured to the cap between the plies at one side of the cap. Ribbon 67 may be a plastic tape or string or any other like material. It may be secured to the container adjacent the ribbon opening 66 or may 'be left free. Thecontainer 60 is conical.

While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limitmyself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and that various changes and modifications may 'be made within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claim.
