TOY BATH TUB WITH SHOWER ARRANGEMENT Filed April 19, 1957 wrs/vroe United States Patent TOY BATH TUB WITH SHOWER ARRANGEMENT Georg Glitz, Furth, Bavaria, Germany Application April 19, 1957, Serial No. 654,024
6 Claims. (Cl. 46-240) This invention relates to mechanical toys, and more particularly to a toy bath tub with shower arrangement simulating a true to life bath. In order to come very near to reality, the toy operates on the basis of water circulation in that water initially filled in the toy is fed by a piston pump to the shower and from there returned to the tub so that the cycle is closed. This idea is not new in itself. However, as compared with the prior art, this invention includes many new and important features which are well suited to improve the appearance of the toy and make its operation especially amusing.
An object of the invention is to provide a toy bath tub with shower arrangement, which comprises in combination a container with a bottom, side walls, and a top having a cut out portion, a bath tub with an aperture in its lowermost portion and suspended in said out out portion, a pump and rotary means in said container, means for simultaneously actuating said pump and said rotary means, means for feeding water from said pump to said shower, said rotary means being adapted to cause a doll, removably placed in the bath tub under the shower, to turn with it about its vertical longitudinal axis through the intermediary of separate means carried by the rotary means and the doll and producing at least one magnet field therebetween.
Another object of the invention is to elfect the operation of the toy by manual actuation of a lever constructed in the form of a U-shaped strap simulating a towel holder, and thus harmonizing very well with its surroundings.
Further objects and structural details of the invention will at once be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing which illustrates by way of example preferred embodiments of the invention and in which:
Fig. l is a vertical longitudinal section through the toy;
Fig. 2 is a top plan view, partly in section, of the toy, parts being removed;
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a preferred form of mechanism for actuating the toy and including a piston pump and a rotary means, and
Fig. 4 is a top plan view of a modification of the rotary means.
Referring to Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing, the toy comprises a container 1 with a bottom, side walls, and a top having a cut out portion in which a bath tub 2 is suspended. An aperture 3 is provided in the lowermost portion of the bath tub 2 and allows any sufficient quantity of water filled in the bath tub to communicate with the container so that the water levels in the tub and the container are always equal. A piston pump 5 is mounted within the container 1 and has an intake 6 adjacent the bottom of the container. The pump 5 has its piston always maintained in working position by a compression spring, this being eifected in known manner and therefore not shown in the drawing. A pressure pipe 7 connects the piston pump 5 with a shower 4. Between the bottom of the bath tub 2 and the bottom of the container 1 a ratchet wheel 9 carrying a magnet disc 8 is rotatably mounted on a vertical axle projecting from the bottom of the container 1 in vertical alignment with the shower 4. The actuation of the piston pump 5 and the ratchet wheel 9 is effected through the intermediary .of a U-shaped stirrupv 10 having studs 11 and 12 engaging in bosses 13 and 14 provided on opposite inner sides of the container 1. A lever arm 15 depends from one end of the stirrup 10 and has one of its ends formed integral therewith and engages with its opposite end a connecting rod .16, operating the piston pump 5, and a thrust member 17 carrying a resilient pawl 18 engaging the ratchet wheel 9. The thrust member 17 is mounted for longitudinal sliding movement in a guide bracket 19 secured to the bottom of the container 1. The stirrup 10 has on opposite sides eyelets 20 and 21 for mounting a U-shaped strap 22 simulating a towel holder. The strap 22 comprises a horizontal middle portion and two vertical legs extending through apertures 23 in the top of the container 1 and havingoutwardlybent ends journalled in the eyelets 20 and 21 of the stirrup 10. 25 designates a small iron strip, preferably a bar magnet, which is mounted in the underside of the feet or base of a toy figure or doll to be used with the bath tub and shower arrangement here described.
In order to position the magnet disc 8 in precise axial alignment with the shower 4, irrespective of the particular size of the toy, it is advisable to construct the ratchet wheel 9 as a spur wheel 9 and mount the magnet disc 8 on an additional spur wheel 26 meshingwith the wheel 9,v as shown in Fig. 4.
While the bath tub 2 is here shown and described so as to communicate with the interior of the container 1, it is also possible to directly connectthe aperture 3 of the tub 2 with the intake 6 of the pump 5 by means of a pipe of suitable diameter. In this event the opening 3 and the intake 6 are provided with annular flanges or projections onto. which the pipe ends are shoved.
From the above detailed description of the invention, it is believed that the construction will at once be apparent, and while there are herein shown and described preferred embodiments of the invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
I claim:
1. A toy bath tub with shower arrangement, comprising in combination a container with a bottom, side walls, and a top having a cut out portion, a bath tub with an aperture in its lowermost portion and suspended in said out out portion, a shower above the tube, a doll removable placed in the bath tub under the shower, a pump and rotary means in said container, means for simultaneously actuating said pump and said rotary means, means for feeding water from said pump to said shower, said rotary means being adapted to cause the doll to turn with it about its vertical longitudinal axis through the intermediary of separate means carried by the rotary means and the doll and producing at least one magnet field therebetween.
2. A toy bath tub with a shower arrangement as claimed in claim 1, wherein the separate means for producing at least one magnetic field between the rotary means and the doll consist of at least one permanent magnet and at the most one iron member coordinated to the rotary means and the feet of the doll, said magnetic field being active through the lowermost portion of the bath tub.
3. A toy bath tub with shower arrangement as claimed in claim 1, wherein the means for simultaneously actuating the pump and the rotary means include a visible U-shaped strap simulating a towel holder and movable up and down.
4. A toy bath tub with shower arrangement as claimed in claim 1, wherein the means for simultaneously actuating the pump and the rotary means include a visible U-shaped strap simulating a towel holder and movable up and down through guide apertures inthe container top, a stirrup pivoted in opposite side walls of the conminer and acted upon by said visible strap, a lever arm depending from one end of the stirrup and having one of its ends formed integral therewith and engaging with its opposite end a connecting rod, operatively connected with the pump, and a thrust member with a resilient pawl operatively connected with the rotary means.
5. A toy bath with-shower arrangement as'claimed in claim 1, wherein the rotary means consist of a ratchet wheel.
6. A toy bath with shower arrangement as claimed in claim 1, wherein the rotary means consist of a spur wheel and at least one further spur wheel meshing with each other.
