4 Claims. 01. 20 -4 locked in raised position without assistance, from the hands of the operator, which maybe engaged in handling the product being dispensed. h
It is still another object of the invention to provide a window for food' dispensing establishments that may be provided with interchangeable frames so that a screen may be quickly replaced with a glass and that may be locked in closed position in a novel-manner.
With the above and other objects in View, the invention has relation to certain novel features of construction and operation more particularly set out in the following specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Z H Figure 1 is a plan'view, taken from the inside of the building in which the window is installed.
Figure 2 is a front elevational view, taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1, with parts of the framework broken away.
Figure 3 is a side elevational view in cross section, taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a front view of the table and window release lever taken on the line 44 of Figure 1, and
Figure 5 is a bottom view, partly in crosssection, of the anchor block employed, taken on the line 5-5 of Figure 1.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates a supporting shelf mounted on the inside wall of a building, such as an ice cream vending stand, on which the channel shaped post members 2, 2 are mounted in an upright position. The post members 2, 2 are mounted with the projecting edges of the channel abutting each other, forming a hollow post, and are maintained in this position by means of suitable bolts as 3. Two posts are formed, but the construction of each post and the operating mechanism hereinafter described as being mounted in the posts are identical. Anchor blocks 4 are secured to the plate 5 and to the shelf 1 to align the posts 2, 2 in the desired position. A pair of guide bars 6, 6 are mounted on each inside face of the posts 2, 2 in which the window frame 7 is loosely mounted. A projection, as 8, extends upwardly from the frame 7 and is equipped with a cross bar 9. An S-shaped hook 10 is releasably secured to said cross bar9 at one end and is secured to one end of the cable 11 at its other end. The cable 11 extends through the post 2, over a suitable pulley 12 and through the block 13, thence through the pulley 14, back through the block Hand is anchored to the pin 15 in the post 2. The pulley 14 is also anchored to the pin 15 in the post 2. The block 13 is secured to the cable 19 which extends from the block 13 through the pulley 15, through an opening in the post 2 and through the guides 17 and theroller 18 which are mounted on the horizontal foot members 45, 45, and is anchored to the hinged foot pedal 20. The above construction is duplicated, one set being on each side of the window and the foot pedal being formed by a bar connecting the two cables 19, 19.
A'table extends through the opening between the posts 2, 2, and is anchored in any suitable manner as by the bolts 22, 22 and a channeled supporting beam 23 which extends transversely beneath the table 21 and is aligned by suitable anchor blocks as 24, which is in turn anchored to the posts 2,2 by bolts as 25 which extend through one side of the posts 2 and into the strip 26'. Suitable additional supports, as 39, 39, support the table 21 on the inside of the building; Channel shaped shoes 27,27 are mounted on the edges of the plate glass 28. Suitable glass holding strips, 29, having means for receiving the hidden bolts 30, maintain the plate glass in place. The shoes 27, 27 are separated by suitable supporting beams 31, 31 which bear the weight of the plate glass above the window opening. I v
Beneath the table 21 maybe mounted a suitable cash drawer as 32 and beneath the cash drawer 32 is mounted on the underside of the table 21 by means of the eyebolts 34, 34, a lock release lever '33, which has an extension 35 extending beyond the edge of the table 21 and is readily available to the hand of the operator. A latch 36, preferably spring loaded, is mounted on the floor 37 of the building and is positioned to engage the foot pedal 20 when depressed by the operator and to hold the pedal 20 in lowermost position until it is released by the op' erator. A cable 38 extends from the lever 33 to the latch 36, and will raise the latch 36 out of engagement with the pedal 20 when the extension 35 is manipulated by the operator.
As shown in the drawings, the Window is equipped with two frames, the first frame, 7, shown with a screen mounted in the framework, and which is positioned in the guides 6, 6. The other frame 40 is shown equipped with glass. When the establishment where the window is employed is in operation, the frame 40 will be maintained in a raised position, out of the way, and locked in raised position by means of the pin 41, which may be moved into locking position through suitable openings in either, or' both, posts 2, 2, and the frame '7 may be locked in position to prevent unauthorized opening thereof by means of the pin 42 through the guides 6, 6; when it is desired to change the frames 7 and 40, the frame 7 is deactivated by disengaging the hook 10 from the cross bar 9 and raising the frame 7 and locking same in raised position by inserting the pin 42 through the guide bars 6, 6, beneath the frame 7, then removing the locking pin 41 from beneath the frame 4t) and freeing the frame 40 for longitudinal movement between the outer guide 6 and the inside edge of one of the posts 2, and securing the hook 10 to the cross bar 43 of the frame 40. The frame 7 will thus be deactivated and the frame 40, operated by the cable 11, activated, thus placing the dispensing window back in operation with the frame 40 becoming the vertically movable frame.
In use, the operator, approaching the window, may open the window by depressing the foot pedal 20, and thus raise the vertically movable frame. The latch 36 will engage the pedal 20, maintaining same depressed and holding the frame in open position. The operator will thus be able to raise the frame while his hands are occupied such as with an order for a customer outside of the building; when the transaction is completed and 3 r the operators hands a re moi longer occupied, the frame may be quickly and easily lowered by depressing the pedal 20, releasing the latch 36 by means of manual manipulation of the lever 35,, which, upon being de-i other suitabletype of speed check may be employed.
It is contemplated'that the posts of the hereinabove described device, as well as all other structural parts, will be manufactured from aluminum, or similar lightweight, durable material. The lower ends of the posts 2, 2 may be formed in separatersections, as 44, to permit mounting of the pulleys 16, and to provide the openings 45 inthe posts through which the cables 19 19 may operate; however, any desired method of mounting said pulley may be employed. 7 5' Whiletheforegoing is considered a preferred form of the invention, it is by way of illustration only, the broad principle of the invention being defined by the appended claims. 1 e
