Application March 9, 1956, Serial No. 570,616
1 Claim. (Cl. 120-108) This invention pertains to a combined desk pen and penholder set and has for its object to provide support for a pen that, by having the pen point exposed, would obviate the usual accumulation of ink and dirt around the pen point, where this, as is common use, is dipped into a closed reservoir.
Another object of the invention has been to provide a sturdy construction of same, while also facilitating saidconstruction by having this mainly achieved by a stamping process.
In the disclosure shown in the drawing similar char acters of reference indicate corresponding views.
Figure 1 is an elevational view of my combined desk set.
Figure 2 is an elevational somewhat perspective view of the penholder.
Figure 3 is an elevational detail view, showing means for attachment of said holder to the base; While Figure 4 is a transverse sectional view of the base of the desk set showing in detail the penholder secured to said base.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, the nu- States Patent See meral 10 indicates the base of a desk set formed with a centrally open reduced bottom space 11 for securing a member 12 to said base by, for instance, riveting, as shown at 13, through the hole 14 in said member 12 and hole 15 in the base 10.
The penholder proper 16 is formed from a blank by stamping and bending and is provided with two lugs 17, 17 adapted to be inserted in the oblong opening 18 in the member 12 and bent upon the latter, as in this instance the body of said member 12 will cover the space 19 in said holder, while the pen point 20 of the pen protrudes from the open lower end 21 of said holder 16.
The member 12 has a hole 22 near its lower end by means of Which a chain 23 secures the pen 24 to the base 10, as said chain is connected to an eyelet 25 of a ring 26 mounted on the pen 24.
The member 12 may be of a slightly convex shape so as to conform to the shape of the penholder, or funnel, and may be secured to the latter in any suitable manner, such, for instance, as by crimping.
I claim as my invention:
A combined pen and penholder set comprising a base, a penholder consisting of a tubular member having a vertical slit therein and being open at both ends, lugs upon said tubular member, a strip curved at one end and having an openingadapted to receive said lug's, whereby to clamp the tubular member to said strip, said strip being adapted to cover said slit, and having its curved end secured to said base. 7
