Application July 23, 1956, Serial No. 599,591
5 Claims. (Cl. 150-30) This invention relates to new and useful improvements in multi-pocket wallets and purses.
More particularly, the present invention proposes the construction of an improved multi-pocket Wallet and purse which can be made of plastic and assembled easily and inexpensively and which will provide a flat attractive structure as well as one with a large capacity.
As a further object, the present invention proposes forming the wallet and purse with an outer cover flap for covering all the pockets and an inner cover flap for covering one or several of the intermediate pockets.
Still further, the present invention proposes to provide a wallet and purse having a compressible and expandible member for automatically opening the pockets on opening of the outer cover flap and a cooperating locking means automatically to open the outer cover flap on actuating a key of the locking means.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in Which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawings forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. 1 is a front view of a purse and wallet constructed and arranged in accordance with the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the structure of Fig. 1 in open position.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 1 but illustrating a modification of the invention.
Fig. 5 is a sectional view taken on line 5-5 of Fig. 4.
Fig. 6 is a view similar to Fig. 5 but showing the key turned and the locking clip being forced open.
Fig. 7 is a view similar to Fig. 6 but showing the parts moved to their fully open position.
Fig. 8 is an enlarged view of the spring and rods shown in Figs. 5, 6 and 7.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the wallet or purse in the first form of the invention shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 is made of plastic material and is designated generally by the reference numeral 15.
Purse has a plurality of aligned pocket forming members 16, 17, 18, 19 and 28. The rearmost member 16 has a back panel 21 and a front panel 22 which are connected at the bottom and sides but not at the top. Intermediate members 17, 18 and 19 have similar back panels 23, 24 and 25 and front panels 26, 27 and 28. The foremost member has a back panel 29 and a front panel 30 and in addition a second pocket forming front panel 31 is peripherally secured to front panel 30 at the bottom and sides but not at the top.
The adjacent front and rear panels of the different pocket forming members are secured together intermediate the panels and spaced from the peripheral edges of the panels. Heat sealed edges 32 hold the front panel 22 of member 16 to back panel 23 of member 17. Heat V 2,827,093 Patented Mar. 18, 1958 ice,
sealed edges 33 secure the front panel 26 of member 17 to rear or back panel 24 of member 18. Heat sealed edges 34 secure the front panel 27 of member 18 to the back panel 25 of member 19 and heat sealed edges 35 secure the front panel 28 of member 19 to the back panel 29 of member 20. Stitches 36 secure the second pocket forming front panel 31 to the front panel 30 of the member 20.
The rearmost pocket forming member 16 has an outer cover flap 37 which extends from the top of the rear panel 21 and is foldable over the tops of the other members 17, 18, 19 and 20 and over the front of the foremost member 20.
An inner cover flap 38 extends from the front panel 26 of intermediate member 17 at the top of the panel and is foldable over one of the adjacent members 18 or 19 to lie adjacent the rear panel of one of these members or of member 20.
The front panel 30 of the foremost member 20 has a flap 39 extending from the top of the panel and foldable over the top of the second pocket forming front panel 31 of member 20.
It will be apparent that the wallet and purse 15 provides a variety and multiplicity of pockets and can expand in accordion fashion or contract in like manner.
The modification of the invention illustrated in Figs. 4 to 8, inclusive, is characterized by the provision of a wallet and purse having a plurality of aligned pocket forming members 51, 52, 53, 54 and 55 having front and rear panels peripherally connected at the sides and hottoms with adjacent front and rear'panels of different members being secured together intermediate the panels and spaced from the peripheral edges. The rearmost member 51 has an outer cover flap 56 extending from the rear panel 57 and foldable over the tops of the other members and over the front panel 58 of the foremost member 55.
In like manner, an inner cover flap 59 is provided on one of the intermediate panels.
A pair of telescoping tubular rods 60 and 61 have a compressible spring 62 mounted between them and rod 60 has a back plate 63 which is secured to the back panel 57 of the rearmost member 51. Rod 61 is slidably mounted in rod 68 and has a front plate 64 abutting the foremost member 55. Aligned rod passage openings are provided in intermediate members 52, 53 and 54.
A clip 65, U-shaped, has a rear end 66 pivotally connected with the back panel 57 of member 51. End 66 of clip is secured to a strap 67 fixed as by rivet 68 to back panel 57. End 66 has a slot 66' in which a retainer pin 68' fixed to strap 67 slidably fits. The front end 69 of clip 65 slidably fits over the bottom of the foremost pocket forming member 55.
A key 70 is pivotally mounted on the foremost member 55, a backing plate 71 being provided on the front panel of the member. Key 70 has a cam 72, the high point of which abuts against the front end 69 of clip 65 and moves it clear of the member 55 as the key is" turned.
foremost members are pressed together, the oiit'er cover I flap placed over the key, the turned.
