Many such `devices' now available' to the public if made t'ohold' a'singlesheet or card, arei not satisfactory when holding a'stackpf'papersan'd usually when, generally used' for'h'olding 'a stackY ofipapers or cards',` they become intime 'quite incapable of' securing a single card or paper. Som'e'such holders comprise pockets and such are of little use to the general public because cards and papers are inserted in said pockets with a great deal of elort. Other types comprising a snap spring or elastic band, if constructed strong enough to securely hold a card or paper, exert a strong pull on the sun visor tending to warp or distort same.

It is an object of my present invention to provide a card or paper holder, suitably constructed to securely hold in place one or more cards or papers, such as report blanks, essential papers or maps, to overcome the many difficulties had with other types of holders now available on the market.

To this end, it is specifically an object of my invention to provide an improved holder attachment for a sun visor or the like by constructing one which is arranged to grip the card or papers by an interlocking yielding grip so that said card or papers are not readily accidentally released, but which is quite readily manipulated to quickly secure or disengage said card or papers from the holder.

More particularly it is an object of my present invention to construct an improved card and paper holder for attachment to the sun visor of an automobile by providing the holder with means which securely hold said card and papers by an interlacing locking arrangement permitting the ready insertion and removal of the card and/or papers therefrom.

Still another object of my invention is to construct an improved holder for attachment to the sun visor of an automobile by providing a stiiened back plate for the holder assembly which absorbs all longitudinal strain of the resilient coil spring retainers, thereby avoiding stressing the visor.

For a more detailed understanding of my invention, reference may be had to the accompanying drawing illustrating a preferred embodiment thereof in which like reference characters ,refer to like parts throughout the several views, and in which Fig. l is a plan elevational view of the card and paper holder attached to a sun visor of an automobile.

The holder assembly for cardsand papers illustrated in the accompanying drawing, comprisesan elongated base or backing plate' 10 provided with rounded' embossedribs 11 extending longitudinally of theplate, and angle bracket members 12 disposed at eachv end'of said plate. Preferably these angle bracketmembers are spot welded or. otherwise suitably secured to the plate. Each angle bracket is provided' with an` inwardly extending flange or ear 13 extending substantially parallel with and spaced from the plate 10.

Resilient' members 14 connect these ears and are supported" in a taut positionparallel' withthe plate. Preferably a pluralityof such resilient members 14 are provided, they being preferably substantially equally spaced'. Preferably these resilient members 1'4 comprise long coil springs and it will be noted that said elongated embossed ribs 11 lare .disposedV to lie in between adjacent resilient members'14 '(see Figs. l and 3'), and' the height of said ribs is such as toslightly overlap the coil springs I4; in other words, the said springs slightly project into the valley intermediate said ribs. Said ribs or embossed humps may be continuous as shown in the preferred construction illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 or formed of a series of embossed rounded bumps 11a illustrated in Fig. 7, both said forms of Figs. 1 and 7 comprising longitudinally extending rib structures.

When a card or one or more papers 9 are to be inserted into the holder assembly, one Way to quickly insert same is to pull out the resilient members 14, insert the card or papers and release the resilient members, which will seek the taut position and bear against the card or papers (see Fig. 4). Because of the overlapping relation of said ribs and springs, the papers or card is interlaced therebetween, and more or less interlocked in place, same being so securely held in place by such means that they are not easily slipped out. To release the card and/ or papers from the holder, the resilient members are pulled out of engagement therewith allowing said card and/or papers to be readily removed.

This holder assembly is preferably secured to the sun visor 15 of an automobile by bolts 16 or other suitable fastening means. The plate 10 is suihciently strengthened or stiffened by said ribs 11 to prevent same being bent or distorted out of place by the force exerted by said resilient members 14. Said plate is further stitened by the outwardly turned llanges 1'7 preferably extending along the long upper and lower edges or the elongated plate structure. If desired, the lower edge only may be provided with a stiiening ange 17, the upper edge being formed with an extended apron 20 to facilitate slipping a card or paper into the holder, as shown in Fig. 7. The stiiened plate takes all the stresses exerted by said resilient members or springs 14, thereby lessening the tendency of said springs to bend or distort the sun visor to which said holder assembly is attached.

While said brackets 12 are preferably permanently secured to the back plate 10, it will be obvious that the bolts or fastening means 16 can serve as the sole means for securing the brackets to the plate if so desired. The springs or resilient members 14 are preferably anchored at each end to the inwardly extending ilanges 13 or ears of said brackets by attaching the ends thereof to perforations or holes 18 formed in these anges or ears 13.
