The net bag concerned with herein, is loaded with wash and then is gathered at its mouth. A safety pin is stuck through such gathers and closed. This makes a bundle, a number of which are then put into a washing machine in which the bags are treated rather roughly, so much so that the safety pins tear through and the net bags consequently have a rather short life. Various attempts have been made to have grommets at rim zone region of the net bag for the pin to be positioned through, but the violent agitation occurring in the washing machines causes the grommets to tear through the net bag body. Also, the safety head of the pin cuts into the net material.

The principal object of this invention therefore, is to provide a novel and improved grommet mounting which will not be torn from the net bag and which will protect the bag from being injured by the pin during Washing machine operation.

Another object hereof is to so associate the pin with the bag that the tendency for the pin to injure the bag during washing machine operation is materially avoided.

Another object of this invention is to provide a novel and improved laundry net bag of the character described, which affords a secure and practically untearahle construction at the grommets and the other bag saving attributes mentioned, which is reasonably cheap to manufacture, easy to use and simple in structure.

Other objects and advantages will become apparent as this disclosure proceeds.

For the practice of this invention, the bag is provided with a pair of grommets in diametrically opposite relation at mouth rim zone of the net bag. Between each half of each grommet and the bag body, a fabric or better yet, a rubberized fabric Washer is interposed. These washers act to securely grip the bag body and avoid the cutting through of the metal grommets. Said washers also protect against the pin from cutting through the bag body. I find that by leaving the gather next to each grommet free of the pin, the tendency of the pin to rip the bag is materially avoided because of the looseness provided of the bag gathers immediately adjacent the grommets. The pin therefore passed through one grommet to extend into the bag, the very next gathered ply is let free of the pin, then the pin is passed through all intermediate gathers skipping the ply adjacent the second grommet. Then the pin is passed through the second grommet and closed.

In the accompanying drawings forming part of this application, similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Fig. 1 is a fragmentary perspective View of a laundry net bag embodying the grommet and washer structures.

Fig. 2 shows a laden bag closed by a safety pin through the grommets and gathers at the mouth rim region of such bag. This is the condition of the bag in the washing machine.

Fig. 3 is a magnified top view of only the gathered mouth rim region of the bag showing the manner in which the safety pin is associated therewith.

Fig. 4 is a fragmentary portion of the bag showing U the face of one of the grommets and a protective washer associated therewith.

in the drawings, the numeral 15 designates a laundry bag of the character mentioned, which is now commonly made of nylon net. At mouth rim region, there are a pair of grommets 16, arranged to be diametrically opposite each other when the bag is set into round form at its rim. Between each grommet part and the netting proper, there is interposed a washer 17, of preferably rubberized fabric material as nylon. In the assembly, the grommet parts press tight against the washers 17, which act as jaws gripping the bag body. Where the grommets are, the net of the bag and the washers are compressed. The diameter of the washers is greater than that of the grommets 16, leaving an exposed perimetral ring or lane 17 on each such washer to protect the bag from the safety pin 18 from cutting into it when the bag filled with wash is subjected to violent treatment in the laundry washing machine.

When the bag 15 is filled with wash, it is closed with the large size safety pin 13, preferably as follows: First the pin is passed through the grommet 16 at the right in Fig. 1 so that the point of the pin is within the bag 15. The grommets are at the sides of the bag, and front and back of the bag at rim region are placed against each other and gathered in sinuous fashion. The pin is now stuck through the folds or gathers 15, skipping the plies 15 which contact the grommets 16. This creates a looseness at the grommet regions as between the plies of the gathers next to the grommets and enhances the bags life considerably. There is no hurt by the pin through the net material because the mesh size easily lets the pin through. The pin is of course set through the second grommet and the pin closed.

This invention is capable of numerous forms and various applications without departing from the essential features herein disclosed. It is therefore intended and desired that the embodiment herein shall be deemed illustrative and not restrictive and that the patent shall cover all patentable novelty herein set forth; reference being had to the following claim rather than to the specific description herein to indicate the scope of this invention.

I claim:

In an article of the character described, a net bag for laundry, two grommets mounted through the Wall of the bag at its mouth rim region so that when the mouth of the bag is opened in circular form; said grommets shall be substantially diametrically opposite each other and including two washers of pliable material positioned on the outer surface of the bag; said washers being carried on said grommets respectively; each of said washers being of a size whereby it presents an exposed perimetral lane around the grommet; the mouth of the bag being closed by having the front and back of the bag against each other to form adjacent plies at rim region and so that the grommets are at the side edges of the bag, respectively; said plies being gathered together in a sinuous format whereby said washers are-on the outside of it and a safety pin having its pointed part stuck through one of the grommets, said gathers between the grommets and the other grommet; said'safety pin being closed.
