PRESCRIPTION FILE Filed Oct. 30, 1953 INVENTQR. Raymond. H. Curr-16r- ATTORNEYS United States Patent PRESCRIPTION FILE Raymond H. Currier, Newburyport, Mass.
Application ()ctober 30, 1953, Serial No. 389,265
1 Claim. (Cl. 12921) This invention relates to a prescription file and has for its primary object to preserve prescriptions in orderly fashion and at the same time facilitate the rapid examination of a selected prescription.
Another object is to enable a prescription to be rapidly selected and if necessary removed from the file without disarranging the order in which the prescriptions are filed.
A further object is to preserve the filed prescriptions in such a manner as to prevent the accumulation of dust and dirt thereon while maintaining them readily accessible for reference.
The above and other objects may be attained by employing this invention which embodies among its features a cabinet having an open front and spaced vertical partitions extending thereacross to define compartments having open fronts, a drawer removably supported in each compartment, each drawer comprising a bottom, a front panel, carried by the bottom and extending vertically upwardly therefrom, a stiffening flange carried by the front panel and extending outwardly therefrom above and in spaced parallel relation to the bottom, a brace carried by the bottom and extending diagonally upwardly therefrom adjacent one side thereof, said brace being connected to the front panel for defining a stop and rigidifying the bottom and front panel, a carrier plate mounted on the bottom for movement about a vertical axis remote from the front panel, and spaced vertical prongs carried by the carrier plate upon which prescriptions may be imparted for movement about the vertical axis into and out of engagement with the stop.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the prescription file embodying the features of the invention.
Figure 2 is a transverse sectional view through the file taken substantially on the line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of one of the file drawers showing a group of prescriptions carried thereby and in a position for ready reference.
Referring to the drawings in detail, a cabinet designated generally comprises a top, bottom, end and back walls defining an enclosure having an open front. Partition walls 12 extend transversely across the cabinet and define compartments, in which drawers, designated generally 14, are slidably received.
Each drawer comprises a bottom 16 carrying adjacent one end an upstanding front panel 18 which is provided at its upper end with an outwardly extending flange 20 which lies parallel with and above the bottom 16 as will be readily understood upon reference to Figure 3. Carried by the bottom 16 and extending upwardly and forward with relation thereto is a bracket 28 which it attached to the front wall 18 as will be readily understood upon reference to Figure 3 to provide a stiffener which will rigidity the front wall 18 relative to the bottom 16. This rigidifying bracket 28 also serves as a stop for the prescriptions when they have been moved into a position in which the major portions thereof lie adjacent the bottom wall 16 of the drawer 14. i
Mounted on the bottom wall 16 for rotation about a suitable pivot pin 30 which lies parallel with the front Wall 18 and in spaced relation thereto is a carrier plate 32 carrying spaced parallel vertically extending prongs 34 upon which the prescriptions P are impaled. These prongs are provided at their upper ends with angularly extending arms 36 which terminate at their ends remote from the prongs 34 in downwardly extending legs 38 carrying adjacent their lower ends upturned hooks 40 which serve to guide the prescriptions P onto the prongs 34.
Each front panel 18 is provided with a suitable handle 42 and an index holder 44 by means of which indices may be attached to the respective drawers to guide the user to a selected group of prescriptions.
In use with the prescriptions P impaled upon the prongs 34 as suggested in Figures 2 and 3, the user upon extracting the drawer from its position Within the cabinet 10 may rotate the carrier plate 32 into the position illustrated in Figures 2 or 3 about a vertical axis which lies in spaced parallel relation to the front panel 18. With the prescriptions in the position illustrated in Figure 2, movement beyond a predetermined point will be arrested by the brace 28 which defines a stop for the prescriptions so that when the prescriptions are wholly within the confines of the perimeter of the bottom 16 the drawer may be placed in its respective compartment 12. Obviously, in order to facilitate the rapid selection of a prescription from the stack of prescriptions on the prongs 34 the carrier plate 32 is rotated about the pivot pin 30 to extract the prescriptions from their proximity to the front wall panel 18 and thus provide access to the prescriptions P impaled on the prongs 34. In this way rapid reference to the prescriptions can be achieved and at the same time the prescriptions themselves will be safely preserved against the collection of dust and dirt.
While in the foregoing there has been shown and described the preferred embodiment of this invention, it is to be understood that minor changes in the details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed is:
A prescription file which includes a drawer comprising a bottom, a front panel carried by the bottom and extending vertically upwardly therefrom, a stiffening flange carried by the front panel and extending outwardly therefrom above and in spaced parallel relation to the bottom, a brace carried by the bottom and extending diagonally upwardly therefrom adjacent one side thereof, said brace being connected to the front panel for defining a stop and rigidifying the bottom and front panel, a carrier plate mounted on the bottom for movement about a vertical axis remote from the front panel, spaced vertical prongs carried by the carrier plate upon which prescriptions may be impaled for movement about the vertical axis into and out of engagement with the stop, spaced parallel arms carried by the prongs and extending outwardly therefrom adjacent the ends thereof remote from the carrier plate, and spaced parallel legs carried by the arms and extending downwardly and inwardly as they approach the carrier plate.
