In the straining separator described in said patentith e.
guidingmembers comprise either upright inwardly projecting stationary guiding ribs or continuously rotating cylinders or rollers at the inner edges of the. ribs. It has, however, been noted, that, when separating material containing long fibres there .is a tendency ofpthe material to clot in the separator chamber because such long-fibered material tends to wrap around the continuously rotating rollers.
The object of theiinvention is toprovide a straining separator of the type described in which the clotting of the material containing long fibers may be eliminated by oscillating the upright rollers. V: V V
A further objectof'the invention is to provide a strainingseparator of the type described, in which the guiding members or rollers are actuated in such amanner that materials of all kinds will be assisted in their movement toward the apertured area .of the drum so as to obtain a uniform flow without clotting. The separator consists of a drum 1 shaped as a truna cated cone the outer wall of which is perforated with holes 2, or is otherwise constructed as astrainer. The drum is attached to a spindle 3. which may be rotated by a driving mechanism not shown in the drawing. The

In the operation of separators of this characten'gthe material moves 'in'a uniform flow'through the separating chamber to the ejection aperturesS and in doing so it'f must pass along the inner edges ofth'e'ribs orwebs which form the compartments between them. When the ,ma- I, terial contains fibrous matter, there is a tendency for the fibers to'adhere to said edges because of centrifugal force. As will be understood on reference to Fig.4, instead of using thearms 20, the extensions of shafts 18, of rollers 17 may be provided with gear wheels27 which. mesh with a toothedsegment 28 arranged for oscillatory motion on a. pivot 29 depending from the base of. the separator drum. The segment is atone end of a swinging. arm 30, the other end of which is mounted on. pivot 29. The connecting rod 25 ispivotally attached tolthe part 30 between the toothed portion and thepivot 29.. Instead of link members 26 the rollers may be coupled together by means of gear wheels.

In a continuously operating straining separator for handling material containing long fibers, the combination of aperforated separator drumhaving an upper inletand; a base with'a plurality of ejection apertures for removal of separated solids fromthe drum, means mounting the. drum for, rotation including a drum,shaft, rotary retarding and conveying members associated with'said ejection apertures, means for rotating .said members, anlannular series of upright guidingrollers within. the drum. and between whichjthe material entering said inlet mustpass to ,reach, the perforated areas, each of saidrollers, being, carried'by a rotatably mounted vertical shaft, and, means foroscillatmg the shaftsof said .rollers.
