Claims priority, application Italy May 3, 1954 2 Claims. (Cl. 206-17) The present invention relates to a tool case adapted to contain a series of tools, and more particularly of drills or anger bits.
Heretofore wooden cases or the like have been in use wherein a series of longitudinal parallel slots are machined which are generally of progressive length and are destined to form the seats wherein the auger bits of progressive length are placed. Such cases are affected by an important drawback, arising from the troublesome difficulties in removing the desired tool, since as a consequence of the substantially completely embedded position of the tools in their slots an easy gripping of the tool with the fingers is prevented. Indeed the user was generally compelled to seize the sharpened tip of the tool, which often provoked injuries.
It is an object of the invention to eliminate such drawback by providing a case enabling a lifting of one part of a tool by a simple pressure on another part thereof, so that it may be easily gripped.
Another object of the invention is to provide a case of said kind wherein different tools, generally of various size, may be easily housed.
These and other objects are realized by the case according to the invention, which is characterized in that in combination with a body wherein a series of seats are slotted there is provided at one end of said seats an abrupt recess, so that a step is formed, around which each tool is obliged to pivot when pressure is exerted on the end of said tool extending over this recessed part of the body.
The invention is more particularly described with reference to the accompanying drawing, which is for illustrative purpose only and in which:
Fig. l is a cross section,
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section, and
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a tool case embodying the invention.
Referring to this drawing, the case is formed of a body 1 of wood or the like, of general prismatical quadrangular form; on one face thereof there are slotted the seats 2, having a section and thus a depth which is progressively increasing in order to be able to house tools of different size. The bottom 3 of such slots is provided, towards the end part of each tool which corresponds to the shank of the drill, with a transverse recess 4, so that between said bottom 3 and said recess 4 a step edge 5 is formed. In view of the continuously increasing depth of the slots 2, said recess is formed with a bottom having a corresponding slope which increases from the part corresponding to the seats for the minor-size tools up to the part corresponding to the seats for the larger-size tools.
According to an advantageous feature of the invention, the body it is provided along its lateral walls with the guides 6 wherein a sheet 7 of transparent material is slidingly inserted, serving as a cover.
The user, when for instance the tool U of the fourth slot is to be removed, exerts a pressure on the end part of the respective drill shank so that it pivots on the edge 5 and the helically shaped part is lifted, thus permitting the tool to be easily gripped.
What is claimed is:
l. A tool-carrying case comprising a body provided with a plurality of tool-receiving slots of progressively increasing depth and further provided with a recess transverse to and communicating with said slots, said recess having an inclined bottom one of whose edges forms a step at the end of each slot and slopes downwardly from the location of the shallowest slot toward the location or" the deepest slot, thereby remaining substantially parallel to a plane tangent to the circumferences of all of said slots.
2. A tool-carrying case comprising a body provided with a plurality of tool-receiving slots of progressively increasing length and depth and further provided with a recess transverse to and communicating with said slots, said recess having an inclined bottom one of whose edges forms a step at the end of each slot and slopes downwardly from the location of the shallowest slot toward the location of the deepest slot, thereby remaining substantially parallel to a plane tangent to the circumferences of all of said slots, guiding means alongside said slots on said body, and a cover receivable by said guiding means and adapted to overlie said slots as well as said recess.
