To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, NOEL C. JONES, a oitizen of the United States, residing at Auburn, in the county of Cayuga and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Ice- Ureeper, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad to the accompany.- ing drawings.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved ice-creeper. Fig. 2 is a side view, showing the same attached to a shoe; and Fig. 3

is a bottom plan view.

Corresponding parts in the several figures are denoted by like letters of reference.

This invention relates to ice-creepers; and it consists in certain improvements in the construction of the same, which will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.

In the drawings hereto annexed, A repre sents the body of myimproved ice-creeper,

which consists of a heel-plate, B, sole-plate O, and oonnectingshankD,"the whole cast or otherwise suitably formed in a single piece of malleable iron, or any other suitable material.

Theheel-plateB and sole-plate O are forked I or bifurcated 1ongitudinally,'as shown at E, which is in order to render the device light and elastic to-the tread, and thus more effective. The sides of the heel and sole plates are provided with upward-projecting lugs F, fitting against the edge of the sole of the shoe or boot to which the device is attached. The said heel and sole plates are also'provided with downward-projecting sharp points G for the purpose of catching in the sleet or ice, and

x The operation and advantages of my inven- It is exceedingly simple,

and may bemanufactured at a trifling expense. It may bemade" in different sizes to fit the boots or shoes of men, women, or children, and it may be attached to or removed from the foot in a moments time. It is valuable and useful not only forordinary use in winter, but especially, also, for the use of'ice-men and lumber-men, and others whose pursuits are of a like nature.

I am aware that ice-creepers have been here- -tofore made consisting of variously-shaped frames having upward projecting lugs fitting against the sides of the sole, and downwardprojecting barbs or points. This, therefore, I do not claim; but I am not aware thaticecreepers have been constructed, as herein described, in a single piece with bifurcated heel and sole plates, whereby lightness and elasticity to the tread are insured.

I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States The herein-described improved ice-creeper, consisting of the bifurcated heel and sole plates B 0, connected by and cast or formed in a single piece with a shauk,D, having slot I and brace J to receive the strap K, said heel and sole plates being provided with upward-projecting lugs F, and with downwardprojectingpoints or barbs G, as and for-the purpose set forth.
