Description

A. GADWELL.
HARNESS BUCKLE.
No. 276,223. I Patented Apr.24, 1883.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALEXANDER CADWELL, OF PETALUMA, CALIFORNIA.
HARNESS-BUCKLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 276,223, dated April 24, 1883.
Application filed October 16, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALEXANDER OADWELL, of Petaluma, county of Sonoma, State of California, have invented an Improved Harness- Buckle; and I hereby declare the following to I be a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to an improvement in the class of harness-buckles, and. more especiall y upon that buckle which has been secured to me by Letters Patent of the United States N 0. 255,838, April 4, 1882. i i
My improvement consists in certain details of construction, as hereinafter fully described, and specifically pointedrout in the claim.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 shows a perspective view of my buckle. Fig. 2 is an end elevation.
Let A represent the frame of the buckle, having hinged upon it a tongue, B, the point of which turns and is adapted to fit within a socket, E, made in the frame, as shown. Upon the back of the frame of the buckle, atits forward end, are made projections or guards G on each side.
D represents the strap. It passes between the guards, through and over the rear of the frame, the tongue fitting through its hole and engaging in the socket E. When the strain is on the strap it fits close up under the frame between the guards. These close it on each side and prevent hair from getting in between the strap and frame. The point of the tongue, fitting in its socket, as shown, does not catch the tail as it switches around, so that my improved buckle, as now shown, is free from all liability of catching the tail or hair of the animal. The guides also serve to keep the strap wellin place, and,in connection with the tongue, hold it steady.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As an improved article of manufacture, a harness-buckle having a frame, A, and tongue B, with bent point fitting a socket or hole, E, in the front of the frame, and having under its front side projections or guards G, inclosing the sides of the strap, substantially as and for the purpose herein described.
In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand.
ALEXANDER GADWELL. Witnesses:
J. RRODGERS, U. WARNEKROS.
