WINDOW FRAME.
No.276,219.- Patented Apr.24,18 83.
WWW"! WTWW w UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM BOISEN, OE LUZERNE, IOWA.
WlNDOW-FlRAME.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 276,219, dated April 24, 1883.
Application filed January 12, 1883. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM BoIsEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Luzerne, in the county of Benton and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in W'indow-l rames; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which itappertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and tothe letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention pertains to an improvement in cellar or basement window-frames, having for its object to promote durabilityand to prevent the swelling or warping of the frame, thus allowing the sash to always properly swing into and outof the frame as itis opened and closed 5 and it consists of an iron or metallic frame with a segmental head, projections to enter the wall or masonry, and rabbeted upon its inner surface at both its outer and inner side, said frame being provided with a hinged sash and with a screen, substantially as hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a front view of my frame. Fig. 2 is an inside view thereof, and Figs. 3 and 4 are an end view and a sectional view, respectively, of the same.
In carrying out my invention 1 construct or make a frame, A, and provide it with a segmental head, A, said frame. and head being made of metal or iron,-preferably cast metal. At its sides this frame is provided with projections a a, which are let into the wall or masonry ofthe building as it is put up, to firmly secure the frame in position. The segmental head A of the frame enables the ready construction of an arch in the wall over the frame. The inner surface of the frame is rabbeted from both sides thereof, providing it with two continuous shoulders, b, one on each side of a central interiorly projecting portion of the frame, as seen in Fig. 4.
B is the sash, with panes of glass therein latter, on the opposite thereof, and held in place by the pivoted buttons d. The molding of the screen is preferably screwed thereon, and across the screen is secured a middle molding connecting to the top and bottom of the frame-inoldin g. This arrangement protects the wire screen, and the latter excludes flies from the glass of the sash, and also excludes flies from the cellar when ventilating the same.
I claim and, desire to secure by Letters Patent--- In a basement or cellar window-frame, the metallic or iron frame A, having the segmental head A and projections a, and the continuous shoulders b within said frame, in combination with the hinged sash B and screen 0, as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM BOISEN.
