ll Claim. (Cl. 4 1--10) This invention relates to advertising display devices and more particularly to display devices that are intended for use in conjunction with the display of various kinds of merchandise such as, for example, bottled beverages, or similarly packaged goods.

An object of the present invention is to provide a novel display device that is easily and cheaply manufactured and which is adaptable to various size articles, such as bottles.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a unitary display device for articles such as bottles that is easily and readily associated therewith.

Still another object of the present invention is to provide a display device for placing over an article, such as a bottle, to attract attention thereto, and which is expansible to accommodate various sized bottles.

Still another object of the present invention is to provide a display device that is compressible into a relatively small space for packaging and shipping purposes.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a display device for use with packaged goods, such as a bottle, and which is self-centering and may be rotated when placed thereon.

The above and further objects of the present invention Will be more apparent in the following detailed description of the preferred embodiment thereof, wherein reference is made to the accompanying drawings, in which:

Fig. 1 is a plan view of the display device of the present invention;

Fig. 2 is a front view of the display device of the present invention as it appears when associated with a bottle; and

Fig. 3 is a developed view of a section of the strip used in the device of the present invention.

In general the display device or unit of the present invention comprises an upright cone-shaped unit formed from a continuous strip or band of material with the upper end of the cone so arranged that it forms a pivot point for the unit when placed over and supported by the top or stopper of a bottle. The spiral convolutions of the strip extend downwardly and outwardly from the top center to a point slightly above the base of the bottle Where the end of the strip is formed into a circle. The band has suitably arranged along the length thereof a series of different decorative and attention attracting objects. Preferably these objects are made integrally with the strip or band, as by a stamping or die-cutting operation when the band is formed.

Referring now to the drawings, a bottle supporting the device of the present invention is indicated by the reference numeral llll, and the reference numeral 12 generally indicates the device. Reference numeral 13 indicates the strip from which the spiral cone is formed, and it may be of any suitable material, such as plastic, plated metal, tin plate, paper, or composition.

ates Patent The strip 13, as indicated in Fig. 3 showing a develop ment of a part thereof, is continuous, and formed along the length thereof are die-cuts of a number of decorative objects, such as a group of balls 14 with associated holly leaves 16, a house 17, a small tree 18 to resemble a Christmas tree, if desired, an angel 19, a Santa Claus face and beard 21, a candy cane 22, bells 23, a reindeer 24, etc. While the above objects generally represent symbols and objects associated with the Christmas season, it will be obvious that numerous other sets of objects representing ditferent seasons and occasions could be formed on the strip.

One end of the strip 13 terminates in a star 26; as shown in the drawings, the star is preferably at the top of the cone so as to form the top ornament of the cone of the generally tree-shaped device. When the strip is cut or otherwise formed, it together with the objects thereon may be suitably colored or decorated as required by the materials used to give an attractive appearance. The strip is then coiled up with the star 26 adjacent the center, and the end of the outer convolution may be attached to the strip to form a ring. Thereupon the coil may be stretched along the axis thereof to form a cone-shaped unit of the desired height or, depending somewhat on the material used for the strip 13, the helical coil may be formed in any of the well known suitable manners.

In the strip 13 and adjacent the star 26 is a small inverted cup-shaped section 27 which serves as a pivot point for the unit. The section 27 receives or rests upon a pin or other pivot 28 in the top of the stopper of the bottle 11 whereby the unit is supported, the part of the strip 13 containing cup-shaped section 27 being formed or bent to assume a substantially horizontal position, as shown in Fig. 2.

Thus there is provided an attractive one-piece decorative display device or unit that can be made by a single die-cutting or stamping operation, that can be stretched or expanded to accommodate different sized objects, such as bottles, that can be compressed for shipping and packing purposes and that can be rotated about the object supporting the same.

While the invention has been shown and described in but a single illustrative embodiment, it will be obvious that various modifications can be made therein without departing from the spirit or essential attributes thereof, and it is desired therefore that only such limitations be placed thereon as are imposed by the appended claim.

What is claimed is:

In a display device comprising a unitary strip of sheet material having decorative objects formed integrally with said strip along the length and extending beyond the width thereof, said strip being loosely coiled into a cone-shaped spiral with the face of said strip being in planes substantially parallel to the axis of said helix, the inner end of said strip having a part thereof bent normal to the face of said strip and the axis of said helix formed into an inverted cup-shaped section providing a pivot for said device at the top thereof, and the outer end of said strip meeting in overlapping relation the last outside convolution of said spiral to form a continuous ring at the bottom of said cone.
