SPRING BED BOTTOM.
(No Model.)
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE W. FISHERING, OIF ALLEGHENY, PENNSYLVANIA.
SPRING BED-BOTTOM.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 275,476, dated April 10, 1883.
I Application led September 13, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be tknown that I,GEoRGEW.F1sHEE1NG,a citizen of the United States, residing at Allegheny, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Spring Bed-Bottoms, of which the following is a specication'.
, My invention relates to an improvement in spring bed-bottoms, and relates particularly to those bed-bottoms in which are used double conical spiral springs, and is designed to obviate the necessity of any hook arrangement to connect said springs.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view, looking at the top, of a .spring bed-bottom, showing my invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective view ol' a small section containing two spirals.
Similar letters refer to similarparts throughout the different views.
The slats A, secured to the end blocks, B, constitute thebed-'rame, to which the springs -are secured. The springs c of the double spring G are inserted in and stapled to the slats A at the point s. Then the springs b are pressed through the space e of the adjacent spring, so as to interlock the top spire ot' the spring a. with the t'op spire ot the spring b at the point a'. The ends of the wire which forms the springs b are inserted in and secured to the slats A at a point distant from the point of insertion s of the spring a equal to the distance across the top or largest spire of said springs. 1n a like manner the springs c and d are pressed through the space e of the adjacent spring, so as to interlock, and Vsecured to the slats at equaldistances apart, and so on with as many springs as are required to lill the bed-frame. To give rigidity to the springs lengthwise over the bed, the ends of each series ot springs are connected with the end blocks, B, by means of a chain or wire,f, interlocking with the said springs, and firmly stapled to top of the end blocks, B.
Having thus described my invention, what I desire to claim and secure by Letters Patent In a spring bed-bottom, the combination of two or more double conical spiral springs, having the largest or top spire of each spring that forms the pair intcrlocked with the largest spire of each adjacent spring that forms a similar double spring, substantially as described, and for the purpose specified.
GEORGE W. FISHERING.
