NICOLAS VIZELIOH, OF STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA.
COMBINED'PORTABLE TANK AND PUMP.
SPECIFICATIONforming' part of Letters Patent No. 274,060, dated March 13, 1883.
Application filed November 14, 1881.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, NICOLAS VIZELICH, of Stockton,count-y of San J oaquin,State of California, have invented a Combined. Portable Tank and Pump; and I hereby declare the following tobe a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to a combined portable tank and pump; and it consists in a tank or liquid-containing vessel of the construction hereinafter described, mounted upon runninggear, and having combined with it and inserted Within it force-pumps at each end, the whole machine being adapted to be drawn from place to place, for the objects and purposes hereinafter set forth.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 shows a perspective viewof my machine. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section, and Fig. 3 a horizontal cross section. Fig. 4. is an enlarged view, showing the valves whereby the action of the pump is made alternate.
cocks or plugs D in the lower portion of the.
partitions close or open passages between them. In the middle of the tank, where the. partitions O 0 meet, is an upright fine, P,
opening at its base into a furnace, Q, and extending upward above the top of the tank.
In the bottom of the furnace is a grate, It, un-,
der which is a damper, S, adapted to swing around and close or open the draft.
T is the ash-pit. Bypu'ttin g the furnace-flue in the middle all the compartments have a corner bordering upon it, and its heat may be radiated equally inall.
U is a cap having a wire-gauze head, V, said cap being adapted to fit overxthe top of the flue and act as a spark-arrester.
In one end of the tank is a. force-pump, E,
(No model.)
having its suction-pipe extending down with in compartment Z), and having any suitable length of discharge-hose and style of spout. In the other end of the tank is a force-pump,
VF, having double suction-pipes c and d, proat videdwith plug-valves t t and hose h.
This pump F is an ordinary force-pump, and may be used to pump water from a supply, independent of the tank, through pipe (I when valve t is closed, or pump water from the tank when valve t is closed. When it is desired to fill the tank the" valve 1? is-closed, and hose h is thrust through man-hole Gr, when the water from the well or other supply passes through pipe d, pump F, and hose h into the tank, whenceit maybe subsequently drawn by ch anging the valves, as hereinbefore described.
In the top of the tank, over each compartment, are man-holes G, suitably covered, whereby the interior of the tank may be reached when required. Opening from the bottom of the compartments are faucets H H to draw off the liquid.
One of its most important uses, and that to which it is intended more particularly to he applied, is an insect destroyer and exterminator. Itcanbe filled with the compound nec- The fire in the furnace is extinguished by closing the damper and fitting a tight cap to the top of the fine. It the liquid be of such a nature as to injure the plants if left upon them, some of the compartments may be filled with it and the others with pure water,
which latter may be used to wash off the plants. If the device is used in cold weather, the liquids may be heated in the tank by the furnace, and by sprinkling the trees with the I warm liquid the insects may be induced to come out, when they may be destroyed.
In this my invention I do not claim a tank The combined portable tank and pump con sisting of the containing vessel or tank A, with its compartments a, a, b, and. b, plugs 1),
furnace Q, with its flue P, grate R, and damp- .In witness whereof I have hereunto set my er S, ash-pit T, and the faucets H H, said hand. vessels being set on running-gear B, and the pumps E and. F in relation with the inside of 5 thetank, the Whole arranged and combined in Witnesses:
one machine, substantially as and for the pur- J As. A. MORRISSY, pose herein described. W. J. NELSON.
NICOLAS VIZELIOH.
