It is an object of the invention to provide a bath implement having a rubber head with a sponge rubber pad attached thereto provided with a soap receiving opening in the center thereof and a plunger movable in the opening and actuated by pressure on a handle attached to the plunger to press the soap and rubber pad in firm contact with a washcloth covering the pad and attached to the head.

A further object of the invention resides in providing a bath implement having a rubber head to which is attached a sponge rubber pad having a central opening therethrough and a handle having a plunger movably mounted in the opening of the head and pad provided with an annular flange disposed between the head and pad operable by pressure on the handle to expand the pad and create a vacuum in the center opening when the pad is in scrubbing engagement with the body.

Another object of the invention resides in providing a device of the above-mentioned character which is simple and durable in construction, eflicient in operation and inexpensive to manufacture.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.

In the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration a preferred embodiment of the invention is shown, the numeral 5 indicates a flexible hard rubber head having a sponge rubber pad 6 attached thereto. The head and pad are circular shape with vertically alined central openings 7 and 8 to receive a plunger or piston 9 formed integral with one end of a handle 10 preferably made of plastic material, such as Lucite. A laterally extending annular flange 11 is formed integral with the plunger 9 being seated in a recess 12 formed in the head. The flange is disposed between the head and pad being free to move with the plunger to expand the pad when the plunger moves downwardly. The pad is cemented or otherwise secured to the head 7 adjacent its marginal edge at 13, and a shoulder 14 formed on the outer periphery of the head provides a seat for an annular elastic band 15 having an extended end atached to the handle 10, as

at 16. The band 15-serves to removably secure awashcloth 17 to the head5 in covering relation tosthe pad6, as shown in Fig. 5. The lower face of the plunger 9 is provided with a series of projecting teeth 18 for gripping a cake of soap deposited in the opening 8 of the pad 6 to firmly hold the soap against movement when pressed against the washcloth. The handle 10 is bent at 19 to extend downwardly in diverging relation to the vertical axis of the head and is provided with a hand grip 20 on its free end having an opening 21 for suspending the scrubber from a hook.

To assemble the implement, the handle 10 is inserted through opening 7 of the head 5 and the flange 11 on plunger 9 is seated in recess 12 and then the pad 6 is cemented to the head with lower end of plunger 9 disposed in opening 8 of the pad. When employed to wash the body a cake of soap is deposited in the opening 8 and the washcloth 17 is then placed over the pad and secured to the head 5 by the elastic band 15, as shown in Fig. 5. In use, when pressure is applied to the handle the plunger moves downwardly in the opening 8 press ing the cake of soap against the washcloth and at the same time the flange 11 expands the pad so it firmly presses the washcloth against the body. Upon release of the pressure on the handle the plunger moves upwardly and creates a vacuum in the opening 8 which draws water through the washcloth into the opening 8 to develop a soap lather even though the soap is not in contact with the washcloth. The scrubber may be used solely as a back scrubber by eliminating the washcloth.

It is to be understood that the form of my invention herein shown and described is a preferred example of the same and changes in the shape, size and arrangement of the parts may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention or scope of the subjoined claims.

Having thus described my invention, I claim:

1. A bath scrubber comprising a head, a sponge pad attached to said head having a soap receiving chamber in the center thereof opening through the upper surface of said pad, a plunger movably mounted in the chamber of said pad, a lateral flange formed integral with said plunger disposed between said head and pad, and a handle extending from said plunger through said head for depressing the plunger and said flange to compress said pad.

2. A bath scrubber of the character described in claim 1 having a series of teeth on the lower end of said plunger.

3. A bath scrubber of the character described in claim 1 having a series of teeth on the lower end of said plunger and a washcloth covering said pad.

4. A bath scrubber comprising a circular head having a shoulder formed on its periphery and a central opening surrounded by a recess in the lower face of the head communicating with said opening, a sponge pad secured to the lower face of the head having a soap receiving chamber in alinement with the opening in said head, a plunger movably mounted in the chamber of said pad having a lateral flange seated in the recess in the lower face of said head, a handle connected to the upper end of said plunger for depressing said plunger and flange, a series of teeth on the lower end of said plunger, a washcloth covering said pad, and an elastic band adapted to seat on the shoulder of said head to removably secure the washcloth in place.

A bath scrubber comprising a head having a central opening and a recess surrounding said opening in its lower face communicating with said opening, a sponge pad secured to the lower face of said head in covering relation to said recess having a central soap receiving chamber in register with the opening of said head, a plunger mounted in the opening of said head for vertical movement having a lateral flange seated in the recess of said head and in bearing engagement with said pad, and a handle connected to the upper end of said plunger for depressing said plunger and flange to compress said pad.

6. A bath scrubber as described in claim 5 including a wash cloth covering said pad and means detachably securing said wash cloth to said head.
