LEVIS B. SOHARRINGHAUSEN, OF DES PLAINES, ILLINOIS.
TRACE-LOOP FOR HARNESS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 273,163, dated February 27, 1883.
Application filed November 23, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEWIS B. SoHARRING- HAUSEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Des Plaines, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trace-Loops for Harness; and I do declare the followingv to be afull, clear, and exactdescription of the invention, such as willenable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of this invention in a perspective view. Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the metal loop. Fig. 3 is a vertical section taken through where the broken lineacacis marked on Fig. 1.
This invention has relation to trace-loops for harness, to take in the back-pad-bearer straps, belly-band billet, and,if so desired, side straps, to hold up the trace instead of back-pads.
The invention consists in the construction and novel arrangement of devices, as hereinafter set forth, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the annexed drawings, the letter Adesig nates the outer leather layer, B the inner layer, andGtheintermediatelayer, forming the trace.
The loop I) is east of metal, and consists of two transverse bars, E and F, connected by a middle bar, G, in the same plane, and by the side-loop bars, H H, the latter terminating in shoulders, K facing toward each other, and
separated by an interval equal to the width of the trace-loop. The metal of the plate is extended outward and rearward from the rear ends of the side loops, forming a rear loop, L, as shown in the drawings. A stud, N, projects outward from the middle of the front bar, F, and is designed to engage a perforation, P, made through the middle portion of i the outer layer of the trace, when the loopplate is put in position between the outer and inner layers, A and B. In this position the ends of the pieces forming the intermediate layer are abutted against the edges of the transverse bars E F, and small side pieces of leather, T, equal in thickness to the interme- 5o under strain in any direction. The side loops,
H H, are designed respectively to receive the back-pad-bearer straps and the belly-band billet, and the rear loop,L, to engage the breeching-straps. In thismanner a neat, strong, and durable job is eifected. on either side of the trace-loop, owing to the shoulders and stud of the loop, and to the pieces of the intermediate layer, which abut against the H-shaped body of the loop-plate also, about six feet of stock and considerable stitching will be saved.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
1. The trace-100p for harness, consisting of the transverse bars E F, middle bar, G, connectin g the transverse bars, stud N, side loops, H H, having the shoulders K, facing toward each other, and the rear loop, L, extending outward and rearward from the rear ends of the side loops, substantially as specified.
2. The combination, with the outer, inner, and intermediate layers of the trace, of the trace-loop consisting of the transverse bars EF, middle bar, G, connecting the transverse bars, stud N, side loops, H H, having the shoulders K, facing toward each other, and the rear loop, L, extending outward and rearward from the rear ends of the side loops, substantially as specified.
In'testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
LE WIS B. SCHARRINGHAUSEN.
