Description
- [N0 Model) I 'J. KRUMMENAUER.
V TUBULAR LAMP SUPPORT,
Patented Feb.20,1883.
aiitimxfiaz he F W JOHN KRUMMENAUER, or BROOKLYN, ASSIGNCR TO FREDERICK DIETZ,
OF NEW YORK, N. Y. 1
TUBULAR LANlP SUPPORT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 272,842, dated February 20, 1883.
Application'filed September 22, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHNKRUMMENAUER, of Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tubular-Lamp Supports, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
My invention relates especially to lamps intended for both indoor and outdoor use, and to devices connected therewith, and has for its object the production of a lamp which may be employed either portably or as a side or hanging lamp, as occasion may require; and it consists essentially in providing the lamp with a bail and open guard or foot, together with a removable support, which may be left thereon while transportingfrom place to place, or entirely removed, at thepleasure of the user; and my invention also involves certain other novel and useful combinations or arrangements of parts and peculiarities of construction and operation, all of which will be hereinafter first fully described, and then pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of my lamp with the removable support attached thereto, and Fig. 2 is a 1.)erspective view of the support detached from the lamp.
Like letters of reference, wherever they occur, indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
A are tbefeed-air tubes of the lamp, and B is the globe or chimney.
O is the lamp-pot.
O is an air-chamber located below the oil,-
pot, to which tubes A conduct the feed-air.
The removable supporting device is constructed of strap, sheet, or cast metal, the body Gr whereof is bent outward at bottom,
. forming an arm, I, which passes into a socket,
1, at the base of the lamp. The upper extremity,I ofG passes through a slot, E, in the top of the lamp, and a spring-catch, S, engaging with a perforation, t, in 1 holds the lamp and support securely against displacement. the whole being'suspended by perforations G in cross-arm G G is a cross-arm at the bottom of G, which prevents the turning or swinging of the lamp when hanging against a wall or other object.
J is a bail secured to the top of the lamp by cars J, for the purpose of carrying the same from place to place or suspending from an overhead support.
K is a guard or open base, constructed of wire and secured to the bottom of the air-chamber;
H is a socket supporting reflector L.
When constructed and arranged in accordance with the foregoing description, my improved lamp is admirably adapted to the various uses and purp ses for which it is intended.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new therein, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- I l. The combination, with a lamp having an open guard or foot attached to its base and a bail at top, of aremovable support constructed of sheet, strap, or cast metal, as set forth, and adapted and arranged to engage with and be secured to the body of the lamp, substantially as shown and described.
.2. A lamp of the character herein specified, having a socket at bottom and a slot at the top thereof, provided with a spring-catch, as set forth, in combination with a removable supporting device, substantially as shown and described.
3. A removable support for lamps of the character herein specified, havingan arm adapted and arranged to engage with a socket upon the base of the lamp, a second arm passing through a slot in the top of the lamp, being held therein by a spring-catch, substantially as shown and described. I
4. In a removable support for lamps of the character herein specified, body G, arms I and 1 perforation i, cross-arms G and G perforations G, and reflector-socket H, the whole combined and arranged to operate substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
, JOHN KRUMMENAUER.
