July 19, 1955 ll 10 INVENTORA; 16 (a Q\ W l- 25 W ATTO/WVEX United This invention, which is to be known as the baby bar bath, has for its purpose to serve as an accommodation for infants, children, invalids and elderly or infirm persons in the course of bathing, or while being bathed, so that they may safely enjoy the comfort and rest incidental to such bathing.

The said invention may be made of any suitable material, or combination thereof, such a plastic, or metal, and, when metal is used, the same must be rust-proof.

As the construction of the invention is comparatively simple, the cost of manufacturing the same is proportionately low.

With the above and other objects in view, this invention consists of the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming part of this application, and in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all views, and in which:

Figure 1 is a front elevation of the invention.

Figure 2 is a side elevation of the same.

Figure 3 is a front elevational view of the back-rest proper.

Figure 4 is a transverse sectional view of said backrest.

Figure 5 is a view in elevation of a connection for adjustment between the base and the back-rest; While Figure 6 is a top plan view of the invention; and

Figure 7 shows the latter in collapsed position.

Referring more particularly to the drawing, the nu meral 10 indicates a substantially horseshoe-shaped seat extending in length approximately 14 to 24 inches on each side, and with a rounded or convex-shaped back 11 of an approximate width of 12 inches, to be varied according to the size of the users.

A back-rest 1 is connected to the base of the invention; said back-rest shall have an approximate minimum height of 8 inches, and the width of the back-rest shall be the same as that of the convex rear of the base.

A pair of frame members 13, 13 are secured, one to each side of the base, while a pair of curved members 14. 14 are solidly connected, one to each of said frame members in order to permit adjustment of the back-rest, which shall be movable rearwardly up to 45 degrees, but which is only permitted, when moved in a forward direction to assume a vertical position, relative to the base.

The back-rest is hingedly connected to the base as at 15, 15, and is adapted to be folded upon the latter, when the invention is not in use, or is to be transported, as in this event it will only occupy a very small space.

The members 14, 14 are formed with holes therein adapted to be engaged by prongs 17, 17 arranged upon each side of the back-rest in order to permit adjustment of said back-rest.

It will be understood that while the above illustrates one way by which to adjust the back-rest to a desired position, several other forms of construction may well be resorted to for said purpose, and the right to such change in construction is hereby reserved.

connected to the other side of the latter. The said strap is arranged at a height, so as to fit under the arm pits of the person using the invention.

The top of the back-rest shall be grooved, as at 18, and lined with soft pliable material so as to permit the neck of the user to rest comfortably in the said groove.

The frame-work shall have attached to it strips of material, both vertical and horizontal, in a webbing manner, so as to serve as a support for the user of the invention when leaning against the back-rest. The quality of said material shall be strong and have good drying qualities, such as nylon, or kindred materials.

The arms of the invention shall be arranged at a height most adaptable to the comfort of the user, and in proportion to other measurements of the particular invention. The said arms 19, 19 shall be joined to the invention as part of same in any convenient manner, such as, for instance, to the frame of the base. The said arms shall consist of tubular rust-proof hollow metal, or other suitable material, formed with tiny spray holes 21, 21 therein at such angies, so that when the water is forced into these tubular arms by a rubber hose connected to a faucet, not shown and controlled by any suitable means, a spray will be diffused through said holes over the lower portion of the users body.

The invention is held firmly in position by four suction cups 22 attached respectively to the four extremities at the base of the invention.

The said arms may be adapted to fold inwards, so that they, with the folding of the back-rest, will provide a small compact unit of the invention, when this is in a collapsed position.

It is obvious that changes may be made in the form, construction and arrangement of the several parts, as shown, within the scope of the appended claim, without departing from the spirit of the invention, and it is, therefore, not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction shown and described hereinbefore.

What is claimed as new, and desired to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is:

We claim:

A device of the class described comprising, in combination, a horse-shoe shaped seat, a pair of frame members hingedly connected to the base of the latter, and a concave back rest supported by said frame members, curved members secured to the sides of the base, the latter being formed with a convex rear portion, the width of the back rest being equal to the width of said base, said curved members engaging the frame members, whereby to permit adjustment of said back rest rearwardly up to degrees and forwardly to a vertical position, tubular arms hingedly joined to the frame at the front and back of the base, said arms being formed with apertures therein and adapted to be connected to a source of water supply, whereby to diffuse a spray of water over a person bathing, said arms fold inwardly, whereby to permit a folding of said arms and the back rest upon the seat, and a strap secured to one of the frame members at a height to engage the arm pits of a person bathing.
