Description

Dec. 21, 1954 GElSlNGER 2,697,223
TIE STRING APRON Filed Jan. 5, 1952 1NVENTOR ABRAHAM S. GEISINEER ATTORNEY United States Patent TIE STRING APRON Abraham S. Geisinger, Bronx, N. Y. Application January 3, 1952, Serial No. 264,733 8 Claims. (Cl. 2-52) provided with tie string and more particularly to the knotted; and, materially increasing the washing cost.
Therefore, my prime objective is to produce a minimum cost tie string apron, without tape housings and in which the tape needs no pre-washing handling and which will not become knotted and entangled during the laundering process.
Another object is to produce a tie string apron with a tie string or tape, capable of normal use but which when not functioning, remains in a restricted state and near the body of the garment.
A further object is to a tie string apron with a tie string or tape secured to the body of the garment permit normal use of the tape but restrict and limit its free movement during the laundering process.
I accomplish these and other objects by providing my apron with a tape. comprised of a tape element and an retracting and holding element, the tape eleelement and the retracting element being secured at its ends to the tape element and to the apron at a position removed from the secured tape.
For further comprehension of the invention and of the obiects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description, the accompanying drawings and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
Fig. l is a view of an apron with tie strings, embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary detail.
In the drawing and in the specifications, in which like numerals indicate similar elements, an apron 10 is shown formed with a body part 11, neck loop 12 and two similar tie strings 13, one being completely shown and the other indicated.
The tie strings 13 are positioned at opposite sides of the body of the apron and each tie string is comprised of a tape element 14 holding element 15.
An end of the tape 14 is stitched at 16 to the apron body near its edge and an end of the elastic element is stitched at 17 to the apron body about five inches inwardly from the stitching 16. The tape element and the elastic contracting element are stitched together at 18, about five inches from the stitched ends 16 and 17, thus forming an equilateral triangle with the elements as sides and the distance between the stitched ends as the base.
It is evident from this structure that the tape at its stitchings 18 is restrained from free movement except portion intermediate tape 5 and an elastic contracting and retracting within the limited areabetween the stitchings 16 and 17, although the tape at its stitchings 18 can actually be forced to a position five inches to the side of the stitching 16 removed from the stitching 17.
The tape element 14 is provided with a shirred section 19 which extends outwardly from the stitching 18 towards the free end of the tape. The shirring, which is formed by the tape being scalloped however, the shirring, and not to the cleansing of the apron.
However, when desired, the tape element can be extended or expanded and pulled so as to become effective for its full length from the stitching 16 to its free end, a distance of approximately thirty inches. As the apron is provided with two tie strings, each having such a tape stapling or pinning, etc.
It should also be understood that although the dimensions stated are preferable and produce an excellent product, other dimensions within the vicinity of those stated also can be used satisfactorily as well as proportionate dimensions.
In the detail shown in Fig. 2 a fragment of a tie string 21 is shown comprised of a tape element 22 and an elastic and retracting holding element 23, which comprised of the tape and elastic elements sewn together, differs from the shirred section 19 in that the elements are sewn together with the elastic element stretched or 1. In a tie string apron, an apron body portion, a tying means and a cooperating element, the tying means and cooperating element opposingly positioned on the apron body and together functioning to retain the apron in a normal wearing condition, said tying means comprised of a tape element and an elastic element, each said elethe apron body at locations re- 2. A tying means for an apron as described in claim 1 having its tape element provided with an elastic section suitable for extension and a terminal section suitable for tying, said sections being positioned at the free end of the tape.
3. A tie string apron, a tying means and a cooperating element and a body portion, the tying means and cooperating element opposingly positioned on the apron body and together functioning to retain the apron in a normal wearing condition, said tying means comprised of a tape element and an elastic element, said tape and elastic elements each being secured at one end to the apron body, the tape being secured in the vicinity of the apron body edge and the elastic element spaced approximately five inches therefrom, said tape and elastic elements being secured together for a distance of approximately six inches, in their unextended condition, and said joined together portion commencing approximately five inches from the joinder of each to the apron body and said tape having an end portion of approximately nine inches whereby the tape is restricted in its movement and extendable when desired.
4. In a tie string apron, an apron body portion, a tying means and a cooperating element, the tying means and cooperating element opposingly positioned on the apron body and together functioning to retain the apron in a normal wearing condition, said tying means comprised of a tape element and an elastic element, said elements each attached to the body part of the apron at locations removed from each other and the elastic element aflixed to the tape element and the length of the portions of the tape and elastic element between their attached and affixed positions approximately being the same as the distance on the apron body between the attached elements whereby an approximate equilateral triangle is formed of part of the apron body, elastic element and tape element and free movement of the tape is prevented.
an apron as described in claim 4, a free end portion, said free end affixed elastic eleto the cooperating 5. A tying means for its tape element having portion being positioned beyond the ment and suitable for being secured element to retain the apron.
6. A tying means for an apron as described in claim 4, its tape element having intermediate its ends and further removed from the body than the afiixed elastic element an expansible elastic section.
7. In a tie string apron, an apron body portion, a tying means and a cooperating element, the tying means and cooperating element opposingly positioned on the apron body and together functioning to retain the apron in a normal wearing condition, said tying means comprised of a tape element and an elastic element, each said element secured to the body part and to each other at approximately equal distances apart so as to form an approximate equilateral triangle, and said tape element having an elastic extendable portion, said portion approximately commencing adjacent the location where the two elements are secured together whereby the tying means can be elongated for securing purposes or left retracted and contracted during laundering.
8. A tying means for an apron as described in claim 7, its tape having a section suitable for securing purposes, said section positioned adjacent the elastic extendable portion and at the tape end.
