Description

Oct. 12, 1954 A. F. SMITH BATH APPARATUS Filed July 21, 1952 Fig. 2;
A/ber m E. smim IN VEN TOR.
Patented Oct. 12, 1954 UNITED STATES OFFICE 2 Claims.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements and structural refinements in bath apparatus, and the principal object of the invention is to provide an apparatus which, in the nature of a garment, may be donned by a user for the purpose of taking a bath.
This object is achieved by the provision of a garment which is entirely waterproof in construction and completely incloses the users body, the garment being provided with means for filling or flooding the same with water so that the body of the user is completely enveloped and bathed in the water Without the necessity of utilizing conventional bathtub or shower.
Apart from its primary purpose of furnishing bathing facilities, the invention may obviously be also employed for therapeutic purposes. Some of the other advantages reside in its simplicity of construction, in its efficient operation and in its adaptability to economical manufacture.
With the above more important objects and features in view, and such other objects and features as may become apparent as this specification proceeds, the invention consists essentially of the arrangement and construction of parts as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the invention.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary rear perspective view thereof.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary sectional view taken substantially in the plane of the line 3 -3 of Figure 2 and Figure 4 is a fragmentary cross sectional view, taken substantially in the plane of the line l-- i in Figure 1.
Like characters of reference are employed to designate like parts in the specification and throughout the several views.
Referring now to the accompanying drawings in detail, the invention consists of a bath apparatus which is designated generally by the reference character l and embodies in its construction a watertight arment including a body portion I2, arm portions i l and leg portions it which are connected to the body portion 12, the arm portions as well as the leg portions having closed extremities so that the garment is substantially watertight.
The body portion i2 is provided with a neck opening I8 and with an entrance slit at 20 which extends downwardly from the neck opening, this slit being disposed at the front of the body portion and being equipped with a watertight closure in the nature of a slide fastener 22.
The chest region of the body portion l2 con sists of an outer wall l2 and a foraminous inher wall 24, these two walls defining therebetween a water jacket 25 having a filler opening 23 adjacent to the neck opening :8. The filler opening is equipped with a suitable filler plug 36.
The leg portions 56 are provided adjacent the lower extremities thereof with a pair of drain plugs 32, and if desired, the soles or undersides of the foot regions of the leg portions it may be formed with traction increasing treads 3d to prevent any possibility of slippage.
The body portion l2 of the garment is provided at the back of the neck openingit with an apertured lug 36 whereby the entire garment may be conveniently suspended from a hook or hanger when it is not in use.
When the invention is placed in operation, the filler plug 30 is removed and Warm or hot water is poured into the chamber 26 through the opening 28, which water, in turn, gravitates through the foraminous inner wall 2% and completely fills entire garment including the arm and leg portions thereof, so that the bathers body is completely enveloped by the liquid. Subsequently, the liquid may be drained from the garment by simply removin the drain plugs 32 as Will be clearly apparent.
If desired, drain plugs 38 may also be provided adjacent the closed extremities of the arm portions 54, so that the user need not raise his arms in order to drain liquid from the arm portions.
It is believed that the advantages and use of the invention will be readily understood from the foregoing disclosure and accordingly, further description thereof at this point is deemed unnecessary.
While in the foregoing there has been shown and described the preferred embodiment of this invention. it is to be understood that minor changes in the details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having described the claimed as new is:
l. A bath apparatus of the character described, comprising a watertight garment including a body portion and arm and leg portions connected thereto, said body portion being provided with a neck opening and with an entrance forming slit extending from said opening, a. watertight closure for said slit, said arm and le portions having closed extremities, a Water filler plug provided on said body portion adjacent said neck opening, drain plugs provided on said leg portions invention, what is adjacent the closed extremities thereof, drain plugs provided on said arm portions adjacent the closed extremities thereof, and foraminous water jacket provided in said body portion, said filler plug communicating with said jacket, said jacket permitting water to contact the body of the wearer.
2. A bath apparatus of the character described, comprising a watertight garment including a body portion and arm and leg portions connected thereto, said body portion being provided with a neck opening and with an entrance formin slit extending from said opening, a Watertight closure for said slit, said arm and leg portions having closed extremities, a water filler plug prodrain plugs provided on said arm portions adjacent the closed extremities thereof, said body portion including a chest region having an outer wall and a foraminous inner Wall defining a water jacket therebetween, said outer Wall having a filler opening adjacent the top thereof, and said filler plug being disposed in said filler opening.
