This invention relates to a diaper having a disposable pad insert, and specifically it relate to such a diaper in which the insert is particularly accessible to be removed and replaced. The invention also relates to such a diaper in which the parts thereof are protected from being soiled by contact with the insert when such is soiled.

It is an object of this invention to provide a diaper having a disposable pad therein, accessible for removal and replacement, the parts of the diaper being protected from being soiled by contact with a soiled insert.

It is a further object of this invention to provide a diaper of this class which has a flap accessible from the front of the baby to be unfastened so that access may be had to the insert.

It is still another object of this invention to provide a diaper of thi class in which the inner parts thereof are covered by a moisture repellent material, thereby protecting the outer parts thereof from being soiled when the insert or pad may be soiled.

Other and further objects are apparent when the specification is considered in connection with the drawings, in which:

As shown in Fig. 1, a portion 2 of the diaper I is of substantially T-shape and has a refolded top side of a 3 and sides A which are connected to a water repellent material 5 on one side of the portion. Such water repellent material covers the inner and lower parts of the bar 6 of the T; and, also, it covers the base I of the T.

As shown in Fig. 2, the diaper has a second portion 8, and this portion, as shown in Fig. 4, has its inner side covered by a water repellent material 9 inwardly of the upper hem ID of such part or portion 8.

As shown in Figs. 3 and 4-, the part or portion 8 is joined at its sides II-II to the bar of the T, and inwardly of such connections a slit is provided between the part 8 and the bar 6, and such slit I2 may be preferably recessed for a purpose to be hereinafter described.

Thus in assembly, as shown in Fig. 6, the pad I5 is held in releasable frictional contact with the material 5 and bar 6 by means of the folding of the end I 5 into the pocket I 4, whereas the other end IBA of the insert I5 is folded upwardly with the flap or base I when such is connected to the part 8 by means of the button 2! The side edges 22--22 of the portions t and 8 are connected at 23, as by means of the strings 24, which are engaged in the eyeholes 25. Thus with the diaper installed as shown in Fig. 6, the insert or pad I6 is positively and firmly held in place as long as the 'end I5 is folded into the pocket I land the end ItA is held upwardly by the flap I.

It is obvious that in order to remove the insert IE, it is only necessary to position the baby on its back and unbutton the flap I and exert a pull on the end I GA of the pad IS, whereby the end I5 is pulled out of the pocket It and the pad I6, including the soiled parts thereof, may pass through the recessed slit I2 and be removed from the diaper.

To place a clean pad It within the diaper to replace a soiled pad which has been removed, it is only necessary to place such clean pad on top of the open hand and shove such pad through the slit I2 and over the downwardly folded flap I. Then the other hand may be inserted between the portion 6 and the back of the baby to grasp the end It of the pad, which is refolded into the pocket [4. Then when the flap i is again buttoned up, the new pad I6 is in position for use.

As a matter of construction, the portions 8 and B may be part of an integral rectangle so that no subsequent joining at l I need be made. In such a case the base i and its cover 5A would be added later by connection to the portion 6. In regard to the connections 23, 24, and 25, the invention is not limited to the specific type shown, and any type of connections may be provided, as, for instance, conventional snaps or hooks and eyes.

It has been stated hereinabove that the portions 6 and B are covered respectively with moisture repellent material 5 and 8, respectively, but it can be seen that a plastic need not be used for these materials 5 and 8, but rather the material which contacts the wearer or the pad [6 can be any material designed to resist the passage of moisture and soiling matter through from the inside of the garment to the outside thereof.

Broadly this invention relates toa diaper having an insert or pad therein which, when assembled, is in contact with a moisture repellent liner, as plastic, on the inner sides of the diaper, and which is accessible through a front flap to be removed and replaced.

What is claimed is:

1. A diaper having a disposable pad insert which comprises, a rectangular portion covered on one side by a moisture repellent material, said material and said portion near one end thereof co-operating to provide a pocket, a transverse slit in said portion substantially centrally there of, a flap of substantially the width of said slit and extending therethrough and joined at one end: to said portion and having said material thereon on the same side thereof as the part of said portion to which it is joined, a disposable moisture absorbent pad having an end to extend into said pocket, said pad lying in contact with said material of said part and extending through said slitto lie in contact with the material of said flap, means for sidewardly interconnecting the end edges of the first part of said portion to the end edges of the second part thereof as said edges extend around the waist of ababy whose legs extend sidewardly outwardly between the side edges of said part below said connections as said baby sits on said pad adjacent said slit, the other end of said pad and of said flap being foldable upwardly and said flap other end and said second part being interconnectable above said pad to confine said pad in place against the baby and said second part and said flap being disconnectable to permit access for the removal and replacement of pads.

2. A diaper having a disposable pad insert which comprises, a rectangular portion, a transverse slit in said portion substantially centrally thereof, a flap of substantially the width of said slit and extending therethrough and joined at one end to one part of said portion, a disposable, moisture absorbent pad lying in contact with said first part and extending through said slit to lie in contact with said flap, means for sidewardly interconnecting the end edges of the first part of said portion to the end edges of the second part thereof as said edges extend around the waist of a baby whose legs extend sidewardly outwardly between the side edges of said parts below said connections as said baby sits on said pad adjacent said slit, the other end of said pad and said flap foldable upwardly and said flap other end and said second part being interconnectable above said pad to confine said pad in place against the baby and said second part and said flap being disconnectable to permit access for the removal and replacement of pads.

3. A diaper having a disposable pad insert which comprises, a rectangular portion having a pocket'adjacent one end thereof and a transverse slit in said portion substantially centrally thereof, a flap of substantially the width of said slit and extending therethrough and joined at one end to one part of said portion, a disposable, moisture absorbent pad having one end to' be folded into said pocket, said pad lying in contact with said first part and extending through said slit to lie in contact with said flap at the other end thereof, means for sidewardly interconnecting the end edges of the first part of said portion to the end edges of the second part thereof as said edges extend around the waist of a baby whose legs extend sidewardly outwardly between the' side edges of said parts below said connections as said baby sits on said pad adjacent said slit, the other end of said pad and said flap foldable upwardly and said flap other end and said second part being interconnectable above said pad to confine said pad in place against the baby and said second part and said flap being disconnectable to permit access for the removal and replacement of pads.
