Description

(NO Mddel.)
A. L. &' G. A WARNER.
FOLDING BED.
I Patented Nov. 28, 1882.
UNITED STAT S ATENT Orrrcn.
ALBION YVARNER AND CHARLES A. \VARNER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
FOLDING BED.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 268,326, dated November 28, 18 82,
Application filed August 31, 1882.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, ALBION L. WARNER and CHARLES A. WARNER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain Improvements in Folding Beds, described in this specification and the drawings thereof.
The invention consists in improvements relating to the foot-board and the legs to facilitate the folding and unfolding of the bed.
Figure 1 is a view of the improvements in one form when the bed is unfolded. Fig. 2 is a view of the same when the bed is folded. Figs. 3 and 4 are detail views of portions thereof.
In the form of construction shown the bed is made to fold into the form of a desk.
The legs A are connected to the foot-pieoe O by spring-hinges B, so that in folding the bed, when the legs A strike the head-board D, they will fold into position, and so that in unfolding the bed they will assume the proper position to support it. The legs A may be connected by cords E and staples a b 0 to the side pieces, F G, of the bed-frame, so that the legs will be drawn into position as the bed is folded.
The legs H, in the form shown, have two arms, 01 6, one arm, (1, of which is supported by a joint, f, having a beveled end, g, and fastened to the side piece, G, by a bracket, h. As the bed is folded or unfolded the legs H will whirl into position by centrifugal force.
A spring, K, is fastened at one end to the bottom piece, L, and at the other end enters a compensating-slide, M, fastened to the footboard N. The spring K serves to assist in raising the foot-board in unfolding the bed. The slide M permits the spring to yield endwise as the bed is folded or unfolded to permit the spring to adapt itself to these movements.
The details of construction and operation (No model.)
may be varied within the scope of my improvements. 7
We claim as our invention--.
1. Thecombinatiominaiolding bed,of headboard D, foot-board 0, leg A, and spring-hinge B, substantially as set forth.
2. In combination with the heathpiece and the foot-piece of a folding bed, a leg fastened to the foot-piece by a spring-hinge to fold in folding the bed, substantially as set forth.
3. The combination, in a folding bed, of leg H, having arms 01 c, and joint f, having beveled end 9, substantially as set forth.
4. In combination, in a folding bed, a leg having two arms, and a joint having a beveled end to guide the leg into position in unfolding and folding the bed, substantially as set forth..
' 5. Thecombination, inafoldingbed, ofspring K and slide M, adapted to assist in unfolding the bed, substantially as set forth.
6. In combination with the folding parts of a folding bed, a spring having a compensating slide and to fold with the bed, so that the tension of the spring will assist in unfolding the bed, substantially as set forth.
7. The combination, ina folding bed, of cord E and hinged leg A to assist in folding the leg, substantially as set forth.
8. In afolding bed,the combination of acord connected to a hinged folding leg and adapted by its connections to assist in folding the leg, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof we hereunto subscribe our signatures,in the presence of two attesting witnesses, on the 31st day of May, 1882.
ALBION L. WARNER. CHARLES A. WARNER. Witnesses:
