An object of this invention is to provide a garbage container of rubber like material wherein the inner surface will be of a smooth surface free from corrugations that have had the tendency to permit garbage to adhere thereto. This container is so constructed and arranged free from any steel spring frame support whatsoever.

Another object of the invention is to provide a garbage container which is strong and durable in construction and also flexible that when dropped on the sidewalk or street will not make any noise and will prevent any dents of any kind whatsoever being made in the container.

A feature of the invention is the novel construction whereby the container will withstand the elements, oils and fatty acids generated in household garbage; and for health and sanitation reasons will be odorless.

Another feature of the invention is a novel constructed lid that fits on the container body efiecting a seal therebetween.

Another object of the invention is the novel construction and arrangement whereby the invention shall be of simple construction and therefore of inexpensive manufacture, and yet which will be thoroughly practical and efiicient in use.

The invention may have a variety of applications and certain of the features of construction may be embodied in a variety of structures.

Other objects, advantages and features of invention may appear from the accompanying drawings, the subjoined detailed description and the appended claim.

The accompanying drawings illustrate the invention.

Fig. 1 is a side elevational view, partly in cross section disclosing the improved garbage container;

Fig. 2 is an enlarged cross sectional view of the lug element of the lid structure;

Fig. 3 is an enlarged cross sectional view of the flange section of the body portion;

Fig. 4 is an enlarged plan fragmentary view partly in cross section of a single lug of the lid structure partially engaging the complementary flange section of the body portion;

Fig. 5 is a fragmental plan view of the bayonet lock used to seal the lid on the container, and shows in broken lines the manner in which the lid looks into the container top;

Fig. 6 is a cross-sectional View taken on line 6-6 of Fi 5.

The invention comprises a processed rubber garbage container l having a body portion 2, that is reenforced around the sides by stiffener beads 3 that are constructed with the same material as the body portion 2 and extend under the bottom as at 4 to help form a support for the bottom.

A lid 13 is provided with a handle [5 that blends into the lid body that will permit a person to remove or place the lid on the container body.

The body portion 2 is provided with a smooth inner surface l8 and a large filet It at the bottom that will not permit any garbage to adhere thereto.

Referring to Figs. 1 to 6 inclusive, there is shown a modified bayonet lid construction in conjunction with a container which is provided with a stifiener reinforcing 22 in the walls and bottom; and the handles 23 constructed in a manner which will blend into the body portion of the same material.

When it is desirable to use the form of handle shown in Fig. 1, it provides a means of easily carrying the container and also allows the lid to be locked and unlocked from the container body.

Referring to Figs. 5 and 6 shows a modified form of bayonet lock that may be used when desired wherein a plurality of flange sections 25 may be spaced around the inside of the top of the container body I, having one end open at 26 and the other end provided with a stop 21 that allows the lug 23 to rest against when in locking position as shown in Fig. 5 of the drawings.

The plurality of spaced lugs 28 are an integral part of the lid l3 and are constructed and arranged in a manner as shown in the drawings.

The bottom portion 30 of the lug 2B is beveled, and a complementary receiving bevel 32 is formed on the lower portion of the corresponding flange section 25. This substantially effects a closing seal between the lid [3 and the body portion 2.

It is understood that although the garbage container may be made of rubber like material in different shapes and sizes, it may also be made of plastic material of different colors, and various parts of the container body and lid may be modified without departing from the spirit of the invention; but the form shown is at present deemed most desirable for easy and cheap construction and ready interchange of parts.

I claim:

In a garbage container of the class described comprising a circular rubber-like plastic body portion provided with stiffener ribs and a smooth inner surface, circumferentially spaced flange sections formed on the upper edge of said surface forming grooves in said body portion, an

engaging semi-rigid bayonet lid structure of similar material as the body portion, cooperating means provided on the body portion having a beveled groove around the inner top of said body portion to complement the bayonet lid structure, and said lid structure having beveled spaced lugs insertable between the flange sections whereby relative rotation of said lid structure with respect to said body portion forces said beveled spaced lugs of said lid structure into intimate pressure contact with the complementary beveled grooves of said body portion and the under surface of said lid is forced into intimate contact along the entire top edge of said rubber-like body portion.
