GARMENT HANGER Filed Spt. 10, 1952 INVENTOR.
P0) 9 WALT/46A QQWIZMQ ATTQQNEY Patented May 11, 1954 UNITED STATES GARMENT HAN GER Roy F. Walther, Lakewood, Ohio, assignor to Rodon Corporation, Rocky River, Ohio, a corporation of Ohio Application September 10, 1952, Serial No. 308,757
1 Claim. 1
My invention relates to garment hangers and more particularly of the type upon which skirts, coats, sweaters and the like may be supported.
One of the objects of this invention is to provide a garment hanger of the type specified which is light and sturdy in construction and which is so constructed that a garment such as a skirt supported thereon at or about the waist band of the skirt will seek its proper level of support upon the hanger whereby the garment will hang properly thus avoiding wrinkles or creases in the garment.
Another object of this invention is to provide a hanger of the type which is provided with downwardly diverging arms whereby garments of varying waist band or neck or shoulder measurements may be supported thereon in such manner as to eliminate the tendency to wrinkle.
A further object of the invention is to provide a garment hanger which is so constructed that it lends itself readily to inexpensive manufacture, such as for instance by die casting the same from suitable plastic material which may be transparent or opaque, and which can be produced as a unitary structure.
Other objects and advantages of my invention will become more apparent as the following description of two embodiments thereof progress, reference being made to the accompanying drawing in which like reference characters are employed to designate like parts throughout the same.
Figure 1 is a top plan view of a garment hanger embodying one form of my invention.
Figure 2 is a front elevation of the same.
Figure 3 is an enlarged section taken on line 33 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is an enlarged section taken on line 4-4 of Figure 2.
Figure 5 is a front elevation of a modified form of the present invention in which the hanger is constructed entirely of a single piece of metallic wire.
In carrying out my invention as illustrated in Figures 1 to 4 inclusive, I preferably form the hanger by die casting the same as a single unit from a thermoplastic material which may be either opaque, transparent, or translucent.
In this form of the invention it will be noted that the hanger comprises essentially a form consisting of a central horizontal shoulder memher I terminating at its opposite ends in downwardly diverging supporting arms 2 and 3 each disposed at substantially the same angle with respect to the horizontal shoulder bar I. A hook 4 is formed integral with the shoulder bar I at its midsection and extends upwardly therefrom so that the hanger may be supported from a hanger rod or other means of support.
As shown in Figures 3 and 4 the shoulder bar 1 extending laterally on opposite sides of the web portion and formed integral therewith. I also provide reinforcing webs 8 and Q extending between the horizontal shoulder bar I and the respective diverging arms 2 and 3 a sumcient distance to provide adequate reinforcement means for the arms and the shoulder bar in the vicinity of their juncture and beyond, to thereby insure against distortion of the arms with respect to the shoulder bar and to maintain them all in alignment as illustrated in Figure 1.
In Figure 5 I have illustrated a modified form of my invention in which the device is formed of a single piece of wire Iii and which comprises a horizontal shoulder portion and downwardly diverging arms formed at the extremities of the shoulder portion, the wire forming the shoulder portion and the arms being spaced apart as indicated at H and I2 respectively, the end portions of the Wire forming the device being brought into contact and bent or formed in the shape of a hook it extending upward from the mid portion of the shoulder member It.
It will be understood from the foregoing that I have provided a garment hanger which is extremely simple in structure, which is rigid and durable in use, and which will support garments having varying sizes 01 Waist bands or shoulder measurements or the like in a manner which will preclude creasing or wrinkling of the garment.
Various changes may be made in construction and arrangement of parts of the invention without departing from the spirit thereof or the scope of the following claim.
I claim:
A garment hanger formed as a unitary structure and comprising a horizontal shoulder bar, and a pair of downwardly diverging supporting arms integral with said bar and each forming an obtuse angle with said horizontal shoulder bar and a supporting member for the hanger formed integral therewith at a part midway of the shoulder bar, said shoulder bar and said arms each comprising a continuous web portion and continuous peripheral bead portions, and web portions in the area adjacent the juncture of said shoulder bar and said arms and conmeeting said bar and arm along their respective under edges.
