1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to pruning saws, and more particularly to a pruning saw of the power driven type.
The main object of a novel and improved is simple in constructio ulate, and which is safe to use.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved power driven pruning saw which is inexpensive to fabricate, which is sturdy in construction, which is light in weight, which is evenly balanced so as to be easy to manipulate, and which may be operated by one hand.
Further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description and claim, ing drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary front elevational view of a power driven pruning saw constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a side elevational view of the pruning saw of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a rear ting blade of the power saw showing a fragment of the handle guard and saw shield.
Figure 4 is a top plan view of the power driven pruning saw illustrated in Figures 1 to 3.
Referring to the drawings, the pruning saw is designated generally at H and comprises a tubular handle i2 having secured axially thereof to one end the electric motor [3. Rigidly secured to the opposite end of the tubular handle I 2 is the enlarged cylindrical housing I4 provided with the radially extending sleeve element iii rigidly secured thereto. Journaled transversely in the casing l4 and extending axially through the sleeve element l5 and being rotatably supported therein is the shaft H5. The shaft of motor i 3, shown at IT, extends axially through the tubular sleeve [2 and is journaled in the easing l. Secured to the end of the shaft I7 is the beveled gear N? which meshes with a beveled gear I9 secured on the shaft l6, whereby shaft [6 is drivingly coupled to the shaft of the motor l3. Designated at L! is a circular saw blade which is secured on the end of the transverse shaft l6.
Designated at 29 is a relatively wide, generally rectangular guard strap having the inturned end arms 2i and 22 which are respectively secured to the tubular handle I2, the outer arm 23 of the strap member 20 extending parallel to handle I2, as shown in Figure 2. Rigidly secured to the upper portion of the outer arm 23 of strap member 20 is a segment-shaped guard 24, the outer arm 23 of the strap member 20 being located the invention is to provide power pruning saw which n, which is easy to manipadjacent to and parallel to the plane of the blade elevational view of the cutv shaft i6 and receiving a portion of the blade H], as is clearly shown in Figures 1 and 3. Mounted on the top portion of motor [3, the switch 26 and being adapted by a suitable plug, not shown, to an electric receptacle.
said base plate 30 by a lock nut The end flange 32 of the motor I3 carrying the lug formations 29 is bolted to the plate 31'! by a plurality of bolts 33.
The motor shaft I! may comprise a detachable coupling, not shown, such as a sleeve coupling, whereby the main portion of the shaft I! may be motor when the pruning cleaning or repair.
of the motor l 3 substantially balances the Weight of the circular saw and. its associated elements on opposite sides of the portion of handle i2 which the user grips, whereby the device is easy to maneuver and may be employed over long periods of time without causing fatigue.
While a specific embodiment of an improved ous modifications within the spirit of the invention may occur to those skilled in the art. Therefore, it is intended that no limitations be placed on the invention except as defined by the scope of the appended claim.
What is claimed is:
A power pruning saw comprising a tubular handle, an electric motor shaft to the transverse shaft, a circular saw blade secured on said transverse shaft, said blade being in a plane spaced laterally outwardly from the motor, a relatively large generally rectangular guard strap secured to said tubular handle with its outer portion extending parallel to said handle and extending closely adjacent the plane of said blade, a segment-shaped guard rigidly secured to said outer portion of said strap concentrically with said blade and housing a portion of the blade adjacent said strap, and a control switch for said motor mountguard strap.
