FRUIT-DRIER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0..267,288, dated November 7, 1882.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALBERT W. WALKER, ot' Glemmonsville, in the county of Davidson and State of North Carolina, have invented a new and Improved FruitDrier; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and

exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification,in which Figurel is a perspective view of my improved drier. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view ofthe same.

My invention relates to portable fruit-driers; and itconsists in sundry details of construction and arrangement, as will hereinafter be fully described, and specifically pointed out in the claim.

In order that those skilled in the art may make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe the manner in which I have carried it out.

In the said drawings, A is a boiler, from which rise two uprights, B and G, braced atthe top by a cross-piece, D. ()n the inside of posts B U, at equal intervals, are secured skids a a, to support hollow d ry ing-trays E, and vertical pieces bl), passing along the ends of said skids, serve to stop the trays at a proper position. Supported by uprights B (J are two pipes, G H, each provided with rubber-packed thimbles e e, passing through the said uprights, for a purpose hereinafter set forth. The lower end of pipe G enters the boilers and its upper end is closed, while the lower end of pipe H is closed and its upper end is open.

The trays E are made with a double bottom, soas to provide a steam-space, d, beneath the fruit to be dried, which rests on the false bottom. The sides of the trays, at opposite ends, are provided with thimbles it" of a diameter corresponding to thimbles e e, and when the trays are pushed into position the thimbles e e register with the thimbles it.

Any number of trays may be arranged on above another, and any desirable variations in the shape of the boiler or the diameter of the thimbles may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention.

When steam is formed in boiler A it rises through pipe G, and, passingthrough thimbles 'e and 2', it fills the hollow trays E, furnishing the necessary heat to dry the fruit, and then passes out at the top of pipe H, the currents passing in the direction indicated by the arrows in Fig. 2.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to obtain by Letters Patent, is-

In a fruit-drier, the boiler A, in combination with vertical pipe Gr, having its upper end closed and provided with thimbles e, hollow trays provided with thimbles M, and vertical pipe H,having its upper end open and provided with thimbles c, all constructed, arranged,and operated as set forth.
