Patented Feb. 23, 1954 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE REMOVABLE HANGER FOR FLOOR BEAM FORMS 2 Claims.
This invention relates to removable hangers for iioor beam forms of the type used for supporting wooden forms for the purpose of casting a concrete beam around a single steel girder or a fabricated steel girder and specifically it refers to a low cost removable and reusable hanger made from simple flat iron parts.
The main object of my invention, is to provide a removable hanger of practical construction, which may be used over and over again and which may be manufactured at low cost.
Another object of my invention is to provide a removable hanger which can be easily replaced in position and which can easily be removed after the concrete has hardened.
Other objects and advantages of my invention, will be apparent in the course of the following description and claims.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specication, and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Figure 1 represents a cross section of a finished floor beam,
Figure 2 represents a side elevation of a hanger and form embodying my invention,
Figure 3 represents a section taken along line 3-3, Figure 2,
Figure 4 represents a plan view of a hanger assembly,
Figure 5 represents a side elevation of a hanger assembly, and,
Figures 6, 7 and 8 represent detail views of the three basic parts used in the hanger.
In the drawings where, for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral IB designates a common steel girder, while the numeral I I designates the finished concrete coating cast around the beam as illustrated in Figure 1. To be able to cast the concrete beam as shown above, I place a number of hangers I2, under said beam as illustrated in Figures 2 and 3. These hangers I2, consist of similar fiat steel punchings having a shape as indicated in Figure 7. The hangers I2, have a notch I3, which rits over the lower webs of the girder I0. The hangers I2, are placed between two angle irons I4, which are of identical size and shape, and have holes as indicated in Figure 8. The hangers I2, are pivoted between the two angle irons I4, by means of a pin I5, with cotter pin I6, extending through holes I1, and are finally locked in place by means of a pin placed through holes IB, and corresponding holes I9, in the angle irons I4. See Figure 5. A sec- 2 ond pair of similar iiat steel members 2li, are placed one on each side of the beam and held in position by the same pins holding the hangers I2.
To make up the form, itis now only necessary to raise a horizontal plank 2l, with notches to accommodate hangers i2 under the beam It and longitudinally of the same, and supported upon the horizontal angle irons lil. See Figure 3. A pair of similar boards or planks 22, are placed .one on each side of the beam and vertical strengthening strips 23, are nailed to the planks 22, as indicated in Figure 3. A pair of horizontal planks 24 are placed on hangers 2%) and are holding the boards 22 with strips 23 in place. The boards 22, are furthermore, if desired tacked to the horizontal planks 2l, along the lower edges of the beam, thereby furnishing a tight and satisfactory form.
The hangers I2, have a rounded portion 2t, at their upper edge, see Figure 7. The rounded portion 25, is made with a radius centered in hole Il. This is made for the easy removal of the hanger I2 after the concrete is hardened. The pin extending through hole I8, is then removed and the hanger l2 is swung outward away from beam I0, by knocking with a hammer on the lower extremity of the hanger I2. Due to the circular shape of the upper edge of the hanger I2, it will be loose and free, so that a light tapping at the lower end will swing it out of engagement with the beam lil.
The operation of my invention is obvious to one skilled in the art from the above description. It may be summarized by stating that after placing the hangers on the beams as described above, suitable planks or boards are supported by the hangers in a secure and safe fashion. The pins through holes Ii and i3 lock the hangers in position, so that they can not come off until at least one of these pins is removed. After the cast concrete beam has hardened, the hangers may be easily removed and reused without even the necessity of cleaning them. Due to the fact that hangers I2 and 2li may be punched out of fiat steel stock and the angle irons irl made from standard angle iron, the total cost of the hangers is extremely low.
It is to be understood, that the form of my invention, herewith shown and described, is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and various changes in the shape, size and arrange" ments of parts, may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit of my invention, or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. A hanger of the character described comprising a pair of identical hanger members supporting a pair of identical structural angles, said hangers each having two holes .at their lower end, the upper ends of said hanger members being shaped as a head with a mouth notched out at its forward extremity and with the head and neck formed on a radius drawn through. one of said holes in the lower ends; a pair of pins placed through said holes in said hangers and through corresponding holes in said angles whereby said hangers may be rotated around said pins ;,a second pair of locking pins fitting through similar holes in said hangers and said angles whereby said hangers may be locked in place, anda second pair of identical at, hooked i hanger members supported in a horizontal position upon said pins between said angle members.
2. A removable hanger' for floor beam forms of -the character describedr comprising a pair ,fof identical but opposingly mounted c. rotatable hanger members, said members being punched from at sheets and having a vertical body ending in a downwardly extending foot, saidl body 2 toward each other, said arms having each two holes, one hole near the centre of said body and the other hole near the end of said arm, the upper ends of said pair of hanger members being shaped like heads with a notched out mouth and with the heads and necks being formed on a radius drawn through Said hole at the extreme ends of said arms; a pair of identical angle members placedone on each side y.off said hanger members along the axis of said arms, said angle Vmembers having holes corresponding to said holes in said arms of said hanger members, and two ,pairs of pins engaging in said holes whereby said `1hanger members may be locked in place.
