The device is designed for the picking of corn particularly but may be, of course, used for many other purposes. In corn picking, the device permits the operator to work a great deal faster and at the same time eliminates the necessity for stooping and thus eliminates to a great degree a common complaint among farmers engaged in this work-backache.
It is accordingly an object of the invention to provide a device of the character set forth which is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture and yet effective and efficient in use.
Another object of the invention is to provide, in a device of the character set forth, a novel means for attaching the same to the wrist of the user.
A further object of theinvention is the pro.- vision of a device of the character set forth having means whereby objects may be picked up at a distance from the operator.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of novel means-in a device of the character set forth, for holding out of engagement a movable jaw from a fixed jaw, both jaws forming a part of the invention. 7

Adjacent the upper end of the shaft Hi there extends therethrough a pin 24a pivotally mounted upon each outer end of which is an ear 25 which ears are integrally formed with an operating handle 26 the lower end of which is provided with an opening 21.
A rod 28 at its upper end extends through the opening 21 and is secured to the handle 26 by bending itsupper end over the main body of the rod, as indicated at 29. The lower end of the rod extends through an eye 30 screwed into the shaft l0 adjacent the shank l1 and thence extends through the opening 24 and upwardly to form an eye 3| which encircles the main body of the rod 28, the eye 3| forming an abutment for the lower end of a compression spring 32 which encircles the rod 28 and the upper end of which spring 32 abuts against the under side of the eye 30.
In operation, it will be apparent that the user, of the device may first encircle his wrist with,
the strap 14 and thereafter buckle the same upon his wrist by means of the buckle IS. The thong or other flexible connection 12 will then permit the device to hang from the wrist of the user without the use of his hand. When it is desired to grasp an object by means of the jaws I6 and 2|, it is only necessary to grasp the upper end of the shaft ID with the fingers of the hand associated with the wrist upon which the strap 14 may be mounted.
